CORTLAND, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team secured its first home playoff game since 2010 and senior goalie
Matt Schneider set a new program-record for career wins (30) following a 3-2 win on the road at SUNY Cortland on Tuesday night.
Schneider stopped 22 shots and
Danny Rock added one goal and one assist as the Golden Eagles picked up their 15th win of the season for the second straight year. Brockport's record moved to 15-8-1 overall and 8-6-1 in SUNYAC play. The Golden Eagles are now unbeaten in 11 of their last 13 contests. Cortland's record moved to 12-10-1 and 5-9-0 in SUNYAC play as the Golden Eagles completed the regular season sweep of the Red Dragons.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead in the first 30:51 of action. Rock got the visitors on the board first when he netted his third of the year off assists from
Chris Pollini and
Mitchell Parsons at the 14:13 marker of the first period.
Brockport added two more goals in the first 10:51 of the second period to push its lead to three goals.
Jake Colosanti netted his ninth of the year at the 9:41 ledger, just 1:10 before
Doc Gentzler registered his sixth goal of the year.
Hunter Laslo and
Jordan Renaud each tallied an assist on Colosanti's goal. Renaud now has 11 helpers this season. Pollini picked up his second assist of the night on Gentzler's goal, while Rock added his second point of the evening and 11th assist of the season.
Cortland threatened with two third period goals to make it s a 3-2 contest. Conor Tierney made it 3-1 at the 3:27 marker of the third period. Cortland's Luca Esposito then added the home team's second goal of the night with just 38 seconds left in regulation, but the comeback bid proved to be too late as the Golden Eagles locked up the key conference victory and a home playoff contest as they now have 17 league points.
Brockport earned a 32-24 shot advantage on the afternoon. Cortland's Nick Modica stopped 29 shots in net for the Red Dragons.
Brockport wraps up regular season play at home on Saturday when it hosts nationally-ranked No. 3 Geneseo for SUNYAC play at 7 p.m.
