Geneseo, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team took on Geneseo Tuesday night in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament. Brockport was eliminated from postseason play, falling to Geneseo 66-52.
An early shot from downtown by
Bailey Pratt gave Brockport some momentum to start the first quarter. The team held an 8-7 advantage with 3:54 remaining in the opening period. A pair of baskets to close the quarter gave Geneseo an 11-8 lead going into the second. The hosting Knights would have a big second quarter, including a 3-point buzzer beater, to secure a 35-15 lead at halftime.
Geneseo's Lindsay Halpin was 5-for-5 from the field with a game-high 13 at the mid-game break.
Bailey Pratt led the Green and Gold with five points, while
Serena Sordetto scored four in the half.
The Golden Eagles had their best scoring quarter of the game in the third, highlighted by two big 3-point shots from freshman
Anna Felice. The first-year guard tallied all eight of her points in the period.
Riqiya Harris hit a big shot at the end of the quarter, as Brockport trailed by 19 heading into the fourth.
The Green and Gold went on a 7-1 run to open the final quarter, closing the gap on Geneseo and making the score read 56-43. The team continued to stay within striking distance, as a 3-pointer by Pratt cut the deficit to just 10 with a minute left. Geneseo was able to hold off the comeback bid to take a 14-point win and advance to the SUNYAC Semi-Finals.
Erin Radack was Brockport's leading scorer, as she finished with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting and had five steals. Senior
Bailey Pratt put up nine points in her final game, while
Julianna Taylor dished out four assists.
Geneseo's Lindsay Halpin scored a game-high 21 point and had four blocks defensively. Sara Ciotti stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, six boards, five assists, and four steals. The Knights will advance to face Cortland in the conference Semi-Finals.
The Golden Eagles season has come to an end with a loss in the first round of the conference tournament. They finish the year with a record of 11-15 overall.
