Golden Eagles on the road for three straight SUNYAC matchups

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -  This past weekend, SUNY Brockport women's basketball made major strides in their season picking up a SUNYAC double header sweep of Potsdam and Plattsburgh. The team improved their record to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play. Not only did the Golden Eagles move closer to a .500 record but were also able regain fifth place in the SUNYAC ranks with only seven regular season games to play.

The Rise of Rosbrook: The Golden Eagles success this past weekend came with a standout performance against the Bears on Friday by forward Kylee Rosbrook. The sophomore posted a double-double outing, accounting for 24 points and 21 rebounds. Rosbrook's 21 rebounds not only grabs her a new career high but also puts her tied for fourth overall on the program's all-time single game rebounding list.

Full Speed Ahead to Fredonia: The Green and Gold are set to open up the week with the Blue Devils from Fredonia State on Tuesday. This is the first time these two teams will be meeting this season, however the Golden Eagles found success against them in the 2018-2019 season. The two opened up the year on January 29th where the Green and Gold came away with a strong 61-51 win followed shortly by a close road loss against the Blue Devils on the road, 56-52.

Both teams are set to enter Tuesday's contest at a similar point in their season with the Blue Devils sitting two spots below the Golden Eagles with a record of 7-11 overall and 3-8 in conference play. The Blue Devils are coming off of an exciting one-point victory over Oswego State on Saturday where they recorded a team high field goals made (30) to end their four-game losing streak. The team is currently averaging 57 points per game, shooting 37.3% from the floor while grabbing 36.7 rebounds and 11.1 assists. The Blue Devils are being led by sophomore Katie Pitcher who leads the team with 171 points, averaging 9.5 per game for aa 33.7 shooting percentage. Pitcher is followed closely by senior Anna Chiacchia who has totaled 164 points while averaging .1 per game for 45.3 percent shooting. Chiacchia also leads the team in total assists with 41.

SUNYAC Ranks: With less than half of their regular season left to play, the Golden Eagles have put themselves in a good spot on both the team and individual leaderboard. Chelsea Henry and Rosbrook currently rank fourth (82.7) and 10th (76.6) overall in the SUNYAC in free throw percentage and Julianna Taylor ranks ninth overall in points (225) and Rosbrook 11th overall (197). Rosbrook finds herself amongst the leaders once more on the other end of the court, sitting eighth overall in rebounds per game (7.4) and total rebounds (134) and fifth overall in blocks (21) and sixth overall in blocks per game (1.2).

Continue the Streak: After a dominating weekend, the Golden Eagles look to continue their win streak through the weekend. After facing the Blue Devils on Tuesday, the Green and Gold are set to travel to Oneonta and New Paltz on Friday and Saturday.

The Golden Eagles will open up the weekend against the Red Dragons on Friday after giving them their first conference win of the season earlier this year. The Red Dragons hold a record of 6-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play while ranking sixth overall in the SUNYAC, just behind the Green and Gold. The last time the two teams met, the Golden Eagles struggled to find offensive opportunities, falling 39-55. Taylor was the driving force of the Green and Gold's scoring, sinking 20 points and an assist through four, accounting for more than half of the team's total points. The junior sank eight of 17 attempts while also grabbing three rebounds and two steals.

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles will go head to head with conference runner up, New Paltz. The Hawks are currently on a three-game win streak, marked at 14-3 overall and 9-1 in conference. Marion Dietz continues to lead the pack with 240 points, averaging 14.1 per game. The senior is currently shooting above .300 in each of the three categories while also grabbing 57 rebounds and 41 assists. Dietz sits atop the list of a team who averages 67.4 points per game, 38.3 rebounds and 12.2 assists. The Hawks are collectively shooting .359 from the floor, .271 from three and .731 from the line.

Coming to an End: The Golden Eagles will cap off their final home games next week, starting with Fredonia on Tuesday and Geneseo on Saturday. During these two games, the Golden Eagles will also raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and celebrate their two seniors on senior day.
