DeYoung Wins Shot Put as Golden Eagles Sit in 5th at Regionals

ROCHESTER, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's track & field team currently sits in fifth place with 18 team points following day one of the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Nazareth College at the Golisano Training Center on Friday. 
 
Senior thrower Tony DeYoung shined once again as he took home 14 team points and a regional shot put title after posting a throw of 16.74 meters on his second throw of the day.  DeYoung currently ranks No. 1 in the nation in the shot put after his school, meet and conference record toss of 17.86 meters last weekend at the SUNYAC Championships. 

Junior Olivier Kother will enter Saturday's final as the top qualifier as he placed first in the men's 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 6.93.  He finished just .02 off his school-record mark of 6.91 which he set last weekend at the SUNYAC Championships. 

Senior Taj Shaw placed fifth overall and earned four team points for the Golden Eagles as he posted a leap of 14.09 meters in the triple jump.  Shaw currently ranks 18th nationally in the triple jump with a distance of 14.40 meters.

Mike Panzarino placed seventh in the men's heptathlon 60 meter dash with a time of 7.54.  He placed fifth in the heptathlon long jump with a distance of 6.26 meters and added a seventh place finish in the heptathlon shot put with a throw of 9.71 meters. He finished day one with a heptathlon high jump clearance of 1.74 meters to take home seventh place in the event.

Competition picks back up on Saturday morning for day two as the men's heptathlon 60 meter hurdles get underway at 10 a.m.
