Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team will play its final two regular season contests this weekend, with a chance to clinch a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. Brockport is on the road to face Fredonia at 3 pm on Friday and Buffalo State at 1 pm on Saturday.
All it Takes is One: With a 7-7-2 mark overall and 3-3-1 in the conference, the Golden Eagles are on the brink of clinching a postseason berth. They need just one win in these final two matches to lock up a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. With five of the six slots for the postseason already taken, every match around the conference this weekend will have an impact on who gets in and who gets which seed going into the tournament.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles earned a much-needed win on the road last weekend, with their win over Potsdam. They got the clean sheet, defeating the Bears 1-0. After going scoreless in the first half,
Lara Kanbur scored in the second half to help give Brockport the victory.
Julia Mascaro was credited with the assist, her fifth of the year. While Kanbur's score marked her third of the season.
Team Leaders: Kiley Longin and
Julia Mascaro are tops on the squad, each with a total of 13 points on the season. Longin has six goals and one assist, while Mascaro has registered four goals and five assists. With 10 points each,
Katie Hotaling has five goals and
Sydnee Smith has four scores and two assists.
Karlie Mann and
Ellen Walpole have been staples in the lineup all year, as the only two players on the team to accumulate more than 1,100 minutes of playing time.
In Net: Guliana Parisi has been holding down the fort as the starting goalkeeper over the last four contests. Playing all but 30 minutes of these four starts, the senior has made nine saves and only allowed five goals while facing 29 shots. Already with one combined shutout to her stat sheet, she recorded her first solo shutout in Brockport's most recent win over Potsdam.
Looking at Fredonia: At 9-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the SUNYAC, the Blue Devils have already clinched their spot in the conference tournament. They currently sit as the fourth seed in the standings going into the final weekend of the regular season. Fredonia most recently earned a 1-0 shutout win over Oneonta on the road. Gabby Alston and Brianna Grazen are tied for tops on the team with 12 points each. Alston has six goals to her name while Grazen has tallied four goals and four assists. Brockport defeated Fredonia, 3-2, in 2019 when the teams last met.
Looking at Buffalo State: The Bengals defeated Hilbert, 1-0, in their last match to improve to 3-13 overall. Winless at 0-7 in the SUNYAC, they are already mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. This most recent victory snapped Buffalo State's 10-game losing streak, which started back on September 14
th. Erin Valentine leads the team with 10 total points on four goals and two assists. The Green and Gold has won three straight against the Bengals coming into the contest, including a 4-1 victory in the most recent game in 2019.
SUNYACs Ahead: With the conclusion of the regular season coming up, the conference tournament is right around the corner. Brockport needs just one win to punch its ticket to the SUNYAC Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on October 30
th.
