Volleyball Hits the Road for Pair of SUNYAC Contests

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team is on the road this weekend for the final two SUNYAC matches of the regular season. Brockport faces Oneonta at 6 pm on Friday and then takes on New Paltz on Saturday at 1 pm.

Back to the SUNYACs: Now with a record of 14-6 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC, the reigning 2019 SUNYAC Champions have officially locked up a spot in the postseason. Brockport is one of five teams to already clinch its spot in the conference tournament, with just one slot left for other teams to fight for. The Green and Gold are currently third in the standings, which would earn the squad a chance to host an opening round match of the tournament on the way to defending its title.

Last Time Out: Last weekend the Golden Eagles took care of business at home against Buffalo State and Fredonia. They took the win in both matches, earning back-to-back 3-0 sweeps versus their conference opponents.

On the Road: Brockport has won four straight matches heading into this weekend's road trip. Although the team is undefeated at 10-0 at home, the Green and Gold own a 1-5 mark playing on the road. The final two SUNYAC contests of the regular season will both be away this weekend, and will have an impact on seeding for the conference tournament.

Hard Hitters: Andrea Coyle and Meaghan Mastro are both top five in the SUNYAC conference in kills this season. Coyle is fourth in the rankings as she leads the Green and Gold with 216 kills so far. Mastro is right behind her teammate at fifth in the conference with 201 kills to her name. Megan Loomis joins in with an average of 2.90 kills per set, as Loomis, Mastro, and Coyle make up three of the top six K/S marks in the conference.

Setting the Table: Kerri McHale and Ashley Allen have been setting up the Golden Eagle hitters all season long. With 480 total assists and an average of 7.16 assists per set, McHale is fourth in the SUNYAC as the team's starting setter. Allen has logged 219 assists this season, putting her just outside the top 10 in the SUNYAC stat chart.

Defensive Effort: Madalyn Bowen and Shelby Budnick have shown great hustle and anticipation all season. Both have recorded more than 200 digs this season to lead the team. With 244 digs Bowen ranks seventh in the SUNYAC, while Budnick's 204 digs ranks ninth. Leading Brockport with 53 total blocks, Meaghan Mastro is tied for ninth in the SUNYAC thanks to 28 block assists and 25 solo blocks.

Looking at Oneonta: Despite a record of 4-15 overall, the Red Dragons are 3-4 in the SUNYAC with a chance at making the postseason still possible. They were swept, 3-0, by Cortland in their last contest. Oneonta defeated Brockport, 3-1, the last time the squad faced off in 2019. However, prior to that Brockport had won five meetings in a row including four 3-0 sweeps.

Looking at New Paltz: The Hawks are one of five teams in the conference that have already clinched a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. They head into the weekend with an overall record of 10-10 and are 5-2 in the conference. New Paltz most recently defeated Oswego, 3-1, on the road. In the 2019 matchup between these two teams, Brockport took the win over New Paltz, 3-1, on the road.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will host RIT on Tuesday, October 26th for their final home contest of the regular season. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 pm.
