Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First Half Rally Falls Short As Cortland Tops Brockport In SUNYAC Tournament Opener

Cortland, NY – The Brockport women's soccer team fell in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs on the road to #3 seed SUNY Cortland. Franchesca Polcaro, Kiley Longin and Katie Hotaling all scored goals in the 4-3 loss.
 
To open the game, Polcaro managed to record her third goal of the season off an assist by Kiley Longin. The goal came at the 8:27 mark of the game following a touch inside of the right post, which Polcaro redirected to the back of the net.
 
Down 1-0, The Red Dragons would net their first goal of the game at the 24:24 mark coming off a Cortland corner kick which was redirected off a header. Less than a minute later, the Golden Eagles would retake the lead as Kiley Longin tallied her seventh goal of the season with an assist by Camryn Pettit. Longin's shot came 20 yards from the net, bouncing off the upper left crossbar and into the back of the goal.
 
Grabbing its largest lead of the game, Brockport would score again in the first half of play as Katie Hotaling netted her sixth goal of the year on a header off a corner kick from Julia Mascaro. The goal occurred at the 44:46 mark of the game to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead into halftime.
 
Following halftime, Cortland answered back with three straight goals to recapture the lead for a final score of 4-3.
 
Brockport and Cortland managed to record a similar number in shots as Brockport shot the ball a total of 15 times to Cortland's 14. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal. Cortland managed to receive seven corner kicks to Brockport's three as Brockport recorded 13 fouls to Cortland's seven.
 
In net for the Golden Eagles was Kayla Usborne as she recorded four saves in 90 minutes of play for the Golden Eagles.
 
The game concludes Brockport women's soccer 2021 season as the team finished overall 8-9-2 with a conference record of 4-4-1.
