Brockport, NY – The Brockport men's soccer team will continue its stretch of traveling on the road for SUNYAC matchups this weekend as they'll take on Oswego State Friday, October 8th at 4 p.m. followed by a trip to SUNY Cortland the next day to battle the Red Dragons at 1 p.m.
Heading into this weekend's matchups,
Matthew Stefaniw is Brockport's team leader in goals and points as he's recorded eight goals this season. His eight goals have him tied for 40th place nationally in all of division III men's soccer. Accuracy has been a factor in Brockport's efforts as well as the team sits in third place nationally in shot accuracy having attempted 100 shots with 63 of them coming on goal. Andrew Taylor who's spent 784 minutes in goal while making 31 saves this year.
Looking at the Lakers this season, the team enters Friday night's game 4-2-4 overall with a 3-0-1 conference record. For Oswego's offense, Kyle Gehnrich, Kyle Hanner and Slater Bushen are the tying goal scorers for the team as each have score three goals so far this season. Gehnrich's two assists makes him the team leader in points with eight, while Hanner's one assists places him in second on the team in assists with seven. In goal for the Lakers, starting all 10 games for them this season has been Brian Terra. Terra has played a total of 981:58 minutes in goal while recording 1.01 goals against averages allowing 11 goals and making 34 saves so far this season.
Looking at Cortland, The Red Dragons will enter the weekend 10-1-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. So far this season the teams only loss came in its season opener when it lost to the University of Rochester by a score of 0-1. Since then, Cortland has not lost a game. Before its matchup with the Golden Eagles, Geneseo will travel to Cortland on Friday afternoon where it'll go head to head with the Red Dragons. Blake Aronsons leads Cortland's offense this season having recorded eight goals and no assists. Right behind him are Anthony Ruggiero who's scored five goals and five assists, along with Jack Colemans as he's recorded four goals and six assists to help the Red Dragons offense. Starting in 12 games for Cortland has been Braden Melveney. Melveny's efforts this season so far includes nine goals allowed with .73 goals against average.
Following this weekend's games, the men's soccer team will have to wait until next weekend of October 15th to play Plattsburgh State, before Senior Day on Saturday, October 16th at 1 p.m.
