Women's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back Tuesday on the Road

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is on the road Tuesday afternoon for a quick step outside of conference play. The squad travels to Selinsgrove, PA to take on Susquehanna University at 4 pm.

Last Time Out: Brockport went to overtime against Geneseo in the last match, falling to its conference foe 1-0. Goalies Victoria Cangialosi and Kayla Usborne combined for seven saves to keep the visiting Knights out of the goal for over 90 minutes of action. Geneseo would score the game-winner just 48 seconds into the first overtime period to claim the win. The Green and Gold now own a record of 4-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in SUNYAC play.

Bounce Back Game: The Golden Eagles look to put an end to a two-game losing skid on Tuesday with a win over Susquehanna. They have lost two in a row for the first time this season, dropping games against Rochester and Geneseo. Brockport has been successful on the road, owning a 2-1 record away from its home field. While traveling the team has outscored opponents, 9-2, and recorded two shutouts in the process.

Around the SUNYAC: With a 1-1-1 record in conference play, Brockport has earned four points towards its spot in the standings. Geneseo, Cortland, and Plattsburgh all have nine points so far and are currently at the top of the SUNYAC. With two conference wins each, Oswego and New Paltz are just slightly ahead of the Green and Gold with six points in the standings. Fredonia, Potsdam, Oneonta, and Buffalo State all have three or fewer points to round out the lower tier in the SUNYAC heading into the week.

Team Leaders: Julia Mascaro leads all on the team with 12 points, tied for fifth in the SUNYAC, coming from four goals and four assists. Katie Hotaling has found the back of the net four times as well, including a hat trick against Houghton earlier in the season. Brylie Hapeman, Kiley Longin, and Sydnee Smith have all score twice so far, while Longin and Smith each have an assist as well. Sophia DeAngelo is second on the squad with two assists from her defensive position. Karlie Mann has been a staple in the back line for Brockport all season, starting in all 10 matches and playing a team-high 885 minutes.

In Net: Brockport has submitted Victoria Cangialosi as the starting goalkeeper for the last two matches, as the freshman records her first two collegiate starts. She has faced 28 shots, making 10 saves and allowing two goals as a starter. Kayla Usborne has been the go-to blocker in net for most the season, starting the other eight games for the Green and Gold. Usborne has made 41 total saves on 89 shots faced and has earned three clean sheets in net this year.

Senior Day: Saturday's SUNYAC matchup with Cortland will be the final conference match played on Brockport's home field for the regular season. It will be Senior Day as the Golden Eagles will celebrate its senior class. There will be a short ceremony to recognize Guliana Parisi, Ellen Walpole, Sydnee Smith, Kayla Bailey, and Emily Davren prior to the start of competition.

Looking at Susquehanna: The River Hawks hold a record of 4-4 overall heading into this non-conference matchup. They recently defeated Landmark Conference opponent Drew University, 2-1, in overtime. Susquehanna is 3-1 on its home field so far this season. Marley Clendenin leads the team with four goals on the season, while teammate Emily Wertz has a team-high five assists. Chloe Wieczkowski has started in net for seven of the eight games for the River Hawks, making 23 saves and allowing eight goals on 54 shots faced.

Big Weekend Ahead: The Golden Eagles return home this weekend for double the action, with two SUNYAC contests on the schedule. They take on Oswego Friday afternoon at 4 pm before welcoming Cortland on Saturday at 1 pm.
