Brockport Hosts Busy SUNYAC Weekend & Celebrates Senior Day on Saturday

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is at home for double the action this weekend. First up is Oswego on Friday at 4 pm and then the squad hosts Cortland on Saturday for a 1 pm start.

Senior Day: Saturday's match against Cortland is the final home SUNYAC contest of the regular season and will be Senior Day for the Green and Gold. Prior to the start of play, there will be a short ceremony to celebrate and recognize the seniors: Kayla Bailey, Emily Davren, Guliana Parisi, Sydnee Smith, and Ellen Walpole.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles lost on the road to non-conference opponent, Susquehanna University, in their last match 5-2. The hosting River Hawks got up early with two goals in the first 16 minutes of action. A goal by Brockport cut into the lead, but Susquehanna answered shortly after to go up 3-1 heading into halftime. Brockport would find one more score in the second but another pair of goals late put the team behind by three before the final horn.

SUNYAC Standings: The Green and Gold sit in the middle of the pack in the conference standings with four points, thanks to a 1-1-1 mark against SUNYAC teams. Geneseo, Cortland, and Plattsburgh are at the top with three wins each, while Oswego and New Paltz are just below with two conference wins. Fredonia, Potsdam, Oneonta, and Buffalo State are at the bottom of the standings with three or fewer points to their tallies.

Goal Scorers: Julia Mascaro and Katie Hotaling are tops on the team this season, scoring four goals each so far. Mascaro leads the way with 12 total points, while Hotaling has tallied eight points. Kiley Longin found the back of the net against Susquehanna to notch her third score of the year. Lara Kanbur also score last time out to get her second goal of her junior campaign. Sydnee Smith and Brylie Hapeman both have two goals to their names, as teammates Camryn Pettit and Franchesca Polcaro each have one.

Setting the Table: Julia Mascaro leads the team in assists as well from her midfielder position, racking up four helpers. Defender Sophia DeAngelo is second the squad with two assists from the backline. With one assist for each of them; Kiley Longin, Lara Kanbur, Sydnee Smith, Camryn Pettit, Sam Maghrak, Katherine Olsen, and Ellen Walpole have all chipped in.

Between the Pipes: All three goalkeepers have seen the field this season for the Golden Eagles, making contributions to protect the net. Kayla Usborne has notched three solo shutouts and one combined shutout in nine starts. She also leads the group with 45 saves, while freshman Victoria Cangialosi has made 10 stops. Guliana Parisi has made two appearances in net, helping out to combine for one shutout.

Looking at Oswego: Oswego heads into Friday's matchup after a 1-0 loss to SUNYAC opponent Fredonia at home. This put the team's record at 5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Before the recent loss the Lakers had won three in a row, including two shutout victories against Buffalo State and Potsdam. Brockport has defeated Oswego three straight times going into the match, outscoring the Lakers 5-1 in that span.

Looking at Cortland: The Red Dragons have been playing well recently, winning two in a row and four of their last five heading into the weekend. They own a record of 5-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC prior to a meeting with Geneseo on Friday. In the last two contests Cortland has defeated Fredonia and Buffalo State by a combined score of 13-0. Brockport last saw Cortland in the SUNYAC Tournament Semifinals in 2019, which ended in a 5-1 loss to the Red Dragons.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles are back at home for their last home game of the regular season on Tuesday, October 12th. They play host to SUNY Canton for a non-conference match, starting at 3 pm.
