Runaway Senior Day Victory for Brockport; Golden Eagles Now Await Potential ECAC Bowl Bid

The SUNY Brockport football team rolled up 233 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and picked off four passes on its way to convincing 38-0 shutout victory over visiting Alfred University in Empire 8 Conference action on Senior Day Saturday.  Jala Coad and Rashad Law combined for 183 yards and four TD's on the ground, while Alaan Montgomery picked off two passes and has now tied the program's all-time single season record with nine interceptions. 

Brockport moved its record to 7-3 overall and will now await a potential bid into an ECAC Bowl Game.  A minimum of three ECAC Bowl Games will take place on next Saturday at campus sites.  Teams will be notified of selection on Monday via an online selection show hosted by James Baker and Frank Rossi of In the D3FB Huddle. The selection show begins at noon on Monday and will be aired live at: https://fb.me/D3Huddle. Alfred's record fell to 5-5 on the on the season.

Coad finished the day with 120 yards on the ground and he now has a career-high 1,198 for the season.  Over the course of three seasons, he has 2,747 rushing yards to go along with 40 total touchdowns (37 rushing, three receiving).

Ben Robinson led the defense with eight tackles, while Josh Greenwood made the most of his senior day with eight tackles, four TFL's and two sacks.  Montgomery picked off two passes, while Andrew Covais and Lawrence Jenkins each added one INT.  Jenkins returned his interception 30 yards for a touchdown, marking his third pick-six of the year. 

Brockport jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half behind a one-yard TD plunge from sophomore running back Rashad Law and a 20 yard field goal from the leg of freshman kicker Nate Wigent.

The majority of Brockport's damage occurred in the third quarter as the Golden Eagles posted 28 points in the 20-minute stretch.  Both of Coad's rushing touchdowns came within a span of 1:30 early in the third.  Montgomery picked off a pass to set up Coad's first score of the day to give Brockport a 17-0 lead with 12:55 to go in the third.  On Alfred's next possession, Greenwood forced a fumble, which was recovered by Neil Levantini at the Alfred 21-yard line to set up Coad's second TD of the day.  Coad broke away on the second play of the ensuing drive for a 21-yard rushing score to put the Golden Eagles on top 24-0 with 11:25 to go in the third quarter. 

On Alfred's next possession, senior Lawrence Jenkins picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for a score to give Brockport a commanding 31-0 lead.  Rashad Law capped the third quarter scoring with a one-yard plunge at the 1:59 marker to account for the Golden Eagles' final score of the contest.

The Brockport defense pitched its second shutout of the season, and it has held its opponents to 14 points or less in seven of 10 games this season.  Alfred could only muster six first downs the entire afternoon and was held to just 117 yards of total offense on the day. Brockport forced nine punts and held the Saxons out of the red zone all afternoon.  The Golden Eagles posted four sacks and they were 4-for-5 in red zone chances on offense. 

20 minutes prior to Saturday's kickoff, the Golden Eagles honored their graduating seniors for their contributions to the program over the course of the last four seasons. Over the course of the last four seasons Brockport has compiled a 40-8 overall record and a 23-3 mark in Empire 8 play. Brockport has won three Empire 8 titles and secured three NCAA Tournament bids in that span.
