Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball looks to build off of its 3-0 start this Saturday. Brockport is on the road to face the William Smith College Herons for a 4 pm tip-off.
Big Time Win: Earlier in the week, the Golden Eagles went on the road to defeat the U of R Yellowjackets, 69-65. This marked the programs first win over the University of Rochester since 1983. Both teams were undefeated going into the game and only Brockport remained that way. The squad trailed 32-30 after a tight first half, and a 22-point third quarter helped give it the lead going into the fourth.
Anna Felice scored 14 points in the second half and as a whole Brockport shot 10-for-12 at the foul line to secure the big time road win for the program.
Felice's Hot Start: Guard
Anna Felice has been on a tear to start her junior campaign. She is the leading scorer for the Green and Gold, averaging 18.3 points a night. In the season opener she put up a career-high 16 points, but that would not be her career-high for long. In the team's most recent win over the University of Rochester, Felice set a new career best scoring mark to lead all players with 24 in the game. She has done a lot of damage from long distance, shooting 42.9% from deep as she has connected on 12-of-28 3-point shots.
Other Key Contributors: Erin Nolan,
Kylee Rosbrook, and
Serena Sordetto are second/third/fourth in scoring for the Green and Gold. Nolan is averaging 8.7 points a game and is shooting 58.8% from the field. Rosbrook posted a double-double in the win over Morrisville and is right behind Nolan averaging 8.3 points. Sordetto has been key coming in off the bench, providing a spark with her averages of 7.3 points and 5.7 rebounds a game while shooting 58.8% from the field.
Owning the Glass: The Golden Eagles' success can largely be a result of their strong effort on the boards. They have outrebounded their opponents in every game so far this season. In total the team has grabbed 155 boards compared to just 103 from the opposing teams combined. Averaging 51.7 rebounds per game as a whole, Brockport is outrebounding teams by an average margin of 17.4 per game. In the 70-40 blowout win over Morrisville, Brockport outrebounded the Mustangs 60-27. It has been a group effort with six players grabbing at least 10 rebounds in total so far this season.
Kylee Rosbrook and
Molly Mahony lead the rebounding effort, both averaging more than seven per game.
Looking at the Herons: The Herons are 1-0 so far this season, as they hosted Keuka College in its season opener back on November 9
th. They dismantled the visiting Wolves with a 98-54 victory. #11 Olivia Parisi and #22 Lauren DeVaney dominated in the game, as they both posted double-doubles. Parisi finished with 25 points and 11 boards, while DeVaney had 24 points and 12 boards. Both players shot 50% or better from the floor. #25 Brooke Jarvis and #10 Kerstin Kelly also hit double-digits with 18 points and 17 points respectively. As a team the Herons shot 46.3% from the field and scored 58 points in the paint.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles finally return to their home court on Tuesday, November 23
rd as they welcome RIT for some non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
