Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team hosts Fredonia on Tuesday night for the first SUNYAC matchup of the season.
Bounce Back Win: After taking their first loss of the season against RIT, the Golden Eagles came back strong for a dominant win over Hilbert. They blew out the Hawks, 74-43, on the road to improve to 5-1 on the season. It was the team's highest scoring game of the year, as it posted at least 20 points in three of the four quarters. With the win Brockport remained undefeated on the road, now standing at 3-0 away from home.
Henry's Big Game: Chelsea Henry showed out in the blowout win over Hilbert. The senior guard posted the first double-double of her career, finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds. It was a career-high in rebounds for Henry, as she also dished out four assists and added three steals. She shot an efficient 7-for-12 from the field and was 1-for-1 from beyond the arc.
Radack's Rhythm: Erin Radack has stepped up the last two games and received her first start of the season last time out against Hilbert. She is the only player to break double-digits in both of the last two games. She scored 12 points against RIT and then came back with a season-high of 15 in her start against Hilbert. She proves to be a threat from long range, as she has shot 5-for-13 combined in the last two outings.
Controlling the Boards: Brockport owned the glass against Hilbert, outrebounding the Hawks 47-22 in the blowout win. The squad is undefeated at 4-0 when outrebounding the opponent this season and 1-1 when losing the battle on the boards. Brockport is averaging 46 boards a game, earning a +10.2 average rebounding margin over opposing teams.
Conference Play Begins: Tuesday night's contest marks the start of conference play for the Green and Gold. The squad begins its path back to the SUNYAC Tournament, as it has earned a postseason spot in each of the last five seasons since Head Coach
Corinne Jones took control in 2015. Coach Jones led the team to an 8-10 record in the SUNYAC in the 2019-20 season, earning a trip to the SUNYAC Quarterfinals.
Looking at Fredonia: The Blue Devils have matched Brockport's 5-1 mark heading into Tuesday night's matchup. Also like Brockport, Fredonia is currently undefeated at 3-0 on the road this season. The team has won three straight games heading into the start of conference competition. The Blue Devils finished the 2019-20 season 5-13 in the SUNYAC, missing out on a place in the conference tournament. Brockport defeated Fredonia in both regular season matchups last season with wins of 78-62 and 67-58. #23 Katie Pitcher and #10 Renee Park have led the way for Fredonia, averaging 15.5 and 12.3 points per game respectively.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles continue conference play this weekend as they play one road and one home game. They travel to SUNY Cortland for a 5:30 pm tip-off on Friday before returning home to play Oswego at 2 pm on Saturday.
