Women's Basketball Hits the Road to Take on Buffalo State

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team looks to continue its great start to the season with a trip to Buffalo State on Friday night. This SUNYAC competition is set to tip-off at 5:30 pm.

Last Outing: Brockport defeated Oswego State at home last weekend in a battle of the Green and Gold, 66-54. After trailing 30-27 at the halftime break, the squad dominated the second half. Brockport outscored Oswego 39-24 in the third and fourth quarters to add another tally in the win column. The victory pushes the team's record to 2-1 so far this season against SUNYAC opponents.

Hot Start: The Golden Eagles are standing tall at 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference to start the year. They are having the best start to a season in over a decade, matching the 7-2 start from back during the 2007-08 season. The 2007-08 team finished the year 25-5 overall and went on to win the SUNYAC Title. Head Coach Corinne Jones has made the conference tournament every season since joining the program in 2015 and is leading the team to its best start in 14 years.

Rosbrook is Rolling: Senior and starting forward, Kylee Rosbrook has been on a hot streak, as she has upped her scoring totals in each of the last five games. She finished with a season-high 24 points in the win over Oswego, making it three straight games in double digits. Rosbrook is averaging 11 points a game, while shooting 44.2% from the floor and 70% at the foul line. After scoring just six points against William Smith she has increased her scoring each game including seven against RIT, eight against Hilbert, 12 against Fredonia, 17 against Cortland, and most recently 24 against Oswego.

Big Numbers: Several players have hit season-high and career-high numbers recently for the Green and Gold. Kylee Rosbrook's 24 points against Oswego was a season-high for the senior. Teammate Serena Sordetto came off the bench to notch a career-high of 18 points in the same game. Erin Radack dished out a career-high 12 assists in the win over Oswego. Molly Mahony had one of her best outings since joining the team, snagging a season-high 13 boards. A few games ago Chelsea Henry notched the first double-double of her career with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Crashing the Boards: The Golden Eagles have made a strong effort to control the rebounding battle each game this season. At 7-2 overall, they have outrebounded their opponents six times and only lost the battle on the glass in three games. The team is averaging 44.9 boards a game and is outrebounding opponents by an average margin of 8.2. It has truly been a full team effort as Molly Mahony, Chelsea Henry, Erin Nolan, Kylee Rosbrook, Serena Sordetto, and Zoe Zutes are all grabbing at least four rebounds a game.

Buffalo State Bengals: At 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play the Bengals are coming off of a recent 54-62 loss to Geneseo. They have lost two of the last three games and own a 3-2 mark playing at home this season. #22 Katie Villarini is the leading scorer in the SUNYAC this season, averaging 24.3 points per game for Buffalo State. Teammate #2 Tashawni Cornfield is another top five scorer in the conference, averaging 15.7 points per game. Buffalo State got the best of Brockport in both regular season matchups during the 2019-20 season with scores of 69-66 and 68-54.

Looking Ahead: Brockport takes a mid-season break as the winter session begins, as Friday's game is the final of the 2021 calendar year. The team gets to refresh before coming back on January 5th, 2022 for a home matchup against Alfred State. Tip-off is set for 2 pm.
