Game Recap: Baseball |

Sisto Homers Twice in Brockport's Season Opening Win at Oneonta

The SUNY Brockport baseball team kicked off it's 2021 season with a convincing 8-1 game one victory on the road at Oneonta Saturday.  Jake Sisto led the way for the Golden Eagles offensively, as he posted two home runs and four RBIs for Brockport in the opener. Sisto was one of three Golden Eagles to post two hits in game one as Ryan Mansell and Nicholas Pastore each registered two hits as well.

Oneonta (5-1) rallied in game two and earned the doubleheader split in the nightcap by the score of 3-1. The Golden Eagles are now 1-1 on the season.

Sunday's home opening doubleheader against Cazenovia was postponed due to inclement weather and Brockport will return to the diamond on the road Tuesday when it travels to Fredonia for SUNYAC Western Division play. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Mansell finished the doubleheader going 3-for-8 with one run scored and one RBI. Pastore finished the day going 3-for-6, while James Houlahan went 2-for-8.

Brockport 8, Oneonta 1 – Game One Final

Four pitchers saw action for Brockport on the mound as they combined to scatter four hits and allowed just one run in the game one victory.  Trevor McCarthy got the opening day nod on the hill and allowed just two hits and struck out two in 2.1 innings of work.  Kyle Canavally came on in relief of McCarthy and struck out five (allowing one hit) in 2.2 innings to earn the victory.  Nicholas Lawlor followed Canavally and did not allow a hit in three innings, while striking out three. Justin DelVecchio finished the day on the mound for the Golden Eagles and allowed just one hit and struck out one in one inning of work.

Ryan Voight put Brockport ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning when he doubled to center field, scoring Tom Kretzler.  Voight finished game one going 1-for-4 at the dish with one RBI and one walk.

Sisto got the bats going in the top of the second when he blasted a two-RBI home run to left field, scoring Daniel DelGaizo, to put the visitors on top 3-0 early.

Oneonta got one back in the third inning, but Brockport struck right back with a three-run fourth inning to essentially put the game away.  Sisto's second home run of the contest also scored DelGaizo.  Matt O'Dair also scored in the inning to give Brockport a commanding 6-1 lead.

Mansell singled to right field in the sixth inning, scoring Justin Pangburn, to put the green and gold on top 7-1.  Brockport then took advantage of a throwing error in the ninth inning to score their eight and final run of the contest.

James Houlahan, Daniel DelGaizo, Tom Kretzler, Ryan Voight, Matt O'Dair and Justin Pangburn each finished game one with one hit.

Oneonta 3, Brockport 1 – Game Two Final

Brockport jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the fourth inning when Michael Spulnick singled to left field and scored Ryan Mansell.  However, Oneonta was able to knot the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth and added the go-ahead run and another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 3-1 victory.

Four pitchers saw action for Brockport on the mound in game two. Andrew Huffman got the start and struck out five in just 2.0 hitless innings of work. Colin Pytlak came on in relief and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing just one run and striking out one.  Brandon Greenspan struck out three in 1.1 innings of work for Brockport.

Four Golden Eagles recorded a hit in game two including Houlahan, Mansell, Spulnick and Pastore.
