Fredonia, NY – The Brockport Baseball went 2-0 in today's doubleheader against Fredonia, improving to 3-1 overall and starting off 2-0 in SUNYAC West play. Brockport had the bats going all day winning game one by a score of 15-2, and taking game two 17-2.
Leadoff man
James Houlahan was incredible against the Blue Devils, batting 7-for-9 with six runs scored, two RBIs, and one double.
Ryan Mansell rattled off multiple extra base hits, hitting 5-for-8 on the day with three doubles and two RBIs.
Matt O'Dair caused problems on the base path as well, going 5-for-8 at the plate and stealing three bases.
Andrew Huffman (1-0) and
Tom Kretzler (1-0) combined for 13 strikeouts in the doubleheader, as both pitchers earned the winning decision. The relievers got the job done all day as well on the mound.

Kobie Punchard,
Kyle Canavally, and
Matt McGowan combined for seven innings of work without allowing a single run to score.
Brockport 15, Fredonia 2 – Game 1
Mansell got Brockport on the board first in game one, as the team was able to go up 3-0 in the second inning. Each team would bring runners home in the next couple innings, as the Green and Gold led 6-2 heading into the top of the sixth. Nine straight runs to close the game, including a 3 RBI double from
Nick Debrino in the eighth, helped the team run away with the blowout win.
James Houlahan was 4-for-6 in game one with four runs scored, while
Ryan Mansell went 3-for-5.
Ryan Voight connected for a 2 RBI double in the fifth, sparking his strong 2-for-4 effort that featured 4 RBIs.
Andrew Huffman got his first win on the mound this season, striking out six batters and allowing just one earned run in four innings pitched. McCarthy pitched four strong innings in relief with two strikeouts.
Brockport 17, Fredonia 2 – Game 2
The Golden Eagles had it going all game long for the second game of the doubleheader, as they led 13-0 in the fifth inning. Fredonia got two on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning but Brockport cruised through the finish line.
Houlahan continued his great day with a perfect 3-for-3 line at the plate in game two, scoring two more runs.
Nicholas Pastore knocked in 3 RBIs, batting 4-for-6 with a double, while
Skyler Ohrvall was 2-for-2 with two doubles. In the third inning,
Ryan Voight went yard for his first home run of 2021.
Pitching five innings in a win,
Tom Kretzler allowed just one earned run and sat down seven Fredonia batters.
Kyle Canavally struck out two more in his one inning of action on the mound.
Brockport now prepares for its home opener, set for Saturday, April 3
rd against Oswego. This doubleheader is set to begin at 1 pm at the Clark V. Whited Complex.
