Brockport, NY – The Brockport Golden Eagles hosted the Oswego State Lakers for a SUNYAC double header on Saturday. After falling to Oswego, 7-2, in game one the Golden Eagles bounced back in a big way with a 14-2 victory in the second game. They are now 4-2 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC West competition.
Trevor McCarthy (1-0) was fantastic on the hill as the starter in game two, sitting down eight Oswego hitters and only giving up one earned run in six innings.
Matt O'Dair went 4-for-6 at the dish on the day to rack up four RBIs and a double.
Brockport 2, Oswego 7 – Game 1
Kyle Canavally (1-1) started on the mound for Brockport in game one and got off to a hot start. In the first two innings he did not allow a single hit and at one point he struck out five consecutive batters. However, Oswego was able to get on the board in the third, taking a 3-0 lead.
With runners on base in the bottom of the fourth,
Matt O'Dair ripped a single that brought
Daniel DelGaizo home to put the Green and Gold on the board. In the sixth
Justin Pangburn was credited with a sacrifice RBI that allowed
Jake Sisto to score, as the team now trailed 3-2. Strong hitting in the eighth and ninth innings by the Lakers gave them a four-run cushion and a game one win.
O'Dair was 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI, while Pangburn had the other RBI and drew two walks. Canavally finished with six strikeouts in four innings in a loss on the mound.
Nicholas Lawlor and
Brandon Greenspan combined for three strikeouts and five innings pitched in relief.
Kieran Finnegan (1-0) got the win as the starting pitcher for Oswego, tallying three strikeouts in four innings of work. Anthony Van Fossen threw five innings and struck out five on his way to the save.
Brockport 14, Oswego 2 – Game 2
Oswego struck first blood again in the second game of the doubleheader, as Jacob Levine hit a solo homer in the top of the second to go up 1-0. The Golden Eagles answered with eight quick runs, including six in the third inning, to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
The offensive explosion was capped off by
Ryan Mansell's two-run homer in the bottom of the third. An error defensively by Brockport allowed Oswego to score an unearned run in the fifth inning to help close the gap. The Green and Gold continued to score, bringing six more runners across home plate through the fifth and sixth innings. The team dominated game two with a 14-2 win at home.
Daniel DelGaizo went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the contest, scoring three runs and connecting for one double.
Matt O'Dair batted 2-for-3 as he tallied up three RBIs, while
Ryan Mroczka also had three RBIs in his 1-for-3 effort at the dish.
Ryan Mansell's home run was his lone hit in three at-bats, as he knocked in two RBIs, scored two runs, and drew one walk.
Nicholas Pastore rattled off a double, scored three runs, and stole a base, while also batting 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Trevor McCarthy nearly threw a complete game, going for six innings in a winning decision. McCarthy struck out eight, as
Tom Kretzler added another three strikeouts during his one inning on the hill.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Tuesday, April 6
th for another SUNYAC doubleheader. They take on the Fredonia Blue Devils, starting at 1 pm.
