Oswego, NY – The Brockport Softball team went 1-1 against Oswego during Saturday's doubleheader, jumping to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC. Brockport took game one, 5-2, while Oswego won game two, 3-9.
Brockport 5, Oswego 2 – Game 1
In game one
Catherine Johnson (2-0) pitched her second complete game of the season as the starting pitcher. She threw nine strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in the winning effort from the circle.
Olivia Hayden was fantastic in the leadoff role, batting 3-for-4 in the first game of the set. She was a terror on the base path, stealing three bases in the contest on the Oswego catcher.
Morgan Skpowski went 2-for-2 with one RBI, while teammate
Cameryn Duggan was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Skpowski got things rolling in the third inning with a sac fly that brought
Amanda Blakely home to score. The Golden Eagles took advantage of several Laker mishaps throughout the game, as they took a 5-0 lead with them into the bottom of the fifth. Oswego got on the board late with runs in the fifth and sixth, but was unable to catch up to Brockport for game one of the doubleheader.
Brockport 3, Oswego 9 – Game 2
Emily Willis-Nersinger opened the game up with a two RBI double in the first inning, which brought
Amanda Blakely and
Kacie Hubbard home. Oswego was busy in the bottom of the first, answering with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Lakers were able to extend their lead to 9-2 with a four-run inning in the fourth. A double by
Madison Evarts in the fifth made way for another Brockport run to score, but the team could not rally late.
Megan Van Dorn (0-1) got the start at pitcher for the Green and Gold, going for 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Julia Palopoli entered the game midway through as the reliever, as she struck out four Oswego batters in 2.1 innings pitched.
Samantha Morgan (1-1) got the win in the circle for Oswego, allowing just two earned runs in five innings of work. Madelana Wrubel was 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and four RBIs for the Lakers in game two. Oswego is now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday for another doubleheader away from home. They travel to take on the RIT Tigers, starting at 3 pm.
