Brockport Earns Convincing Game Two Win Over Fredonia

Fredonia, NY - The SUNY Brockport softball team split a doubleheader on the road at Fredonia Thursday evening. The bats came to life in today's showing as the team tallied a total of 24 hits over the course of twelve innings. The offensive surge included seven doubles and two triples. The Golden Eagles fell in the first game by a narrow margin of 7-6 but they showed their dominance after taking game two by the score of 15-4 in five innings to earn the run-rule victory.

Olivia Hayden had herself yet another successful day at the plate, going 6-for-9 on the day while scoring four runs and driving in two RBI's along with a triple in game one. Emma DeJesus got in on the action going 4-for-7 with one double while driving in an RBI and scoring a run herself. Syd Bolton was able to manufacture a handful of runs as well, driving in a combined five RBI's.

Brockport has now split three consecutive doubleheaders and their record stands at 3-3 on the season. Fredonia's record is now 3-7.  Brockport's home opener against Geneseo on Friday has been canceled due to weather and they will return to action on Wednesday at home when they host Buffalo State for SUNYAC action at 3 p.m.

Fredonia 7, Brockport 6 – Game One Final

Macy Kane got the start in the circle in game one and went four innings as she managed to record three strikeouts over the course of those four innings. Julia Palopoli was then called into action as she pitched two and two-thirds innings, striking out a pair of batters as well.

Madison Evarts got the bats going in game one as she singled up the middle in the second inning to drive in the first baseman Kacie Hubbard. Fredonia answered with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the second to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

The Golden Eagles weren't going to go down without a fight however as Kacie Hubbard managed to drive in Morgan Skpowski on a fielder's choice in the third inning. Syd Bolton then started her RBI streak in the fourth inning as she doubled to left center, driving in three runs.

Fredonia would come back again, and chipped away slowly with one run in the bottom of the fourth and a two run homerun in the fifth to tie up the game at 5-5.

In the top of the seventh, Hayden reached on a fielder's choice and scored DeJesus to make the score 6-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Fredonia rallied with two runs in their final at-bat to earn the walk off victory.

Brockport 15, Fredonia 4 (5 Inn.) – Game Two Final

The Golden Eagles weren't going out without a fight as unbeaten Catherine Johnson was sent out to start game two. Johnson would end up recording her third win and third complete game of the season going 5.0 innings while striking out six batters.

Skpowski got the offense rolling in game two as she recorded a sacrifice fly in the top of the first to drive in Hayden. The green and gold started hot out of the gates as DeJesus, and Blakely each drove in a run in the first as well to make it 3-0.

Fredonia bounced back, scoring four unanswered runs before Hayden reached first on an error allowing Cameryn Duggan to score. After a wild pitch in the fourth, Evarts added a run to cap off the two-run fourth. Brockport took a 6-4 lead heading into the fifth.

The fifth inning was an explosive demonstration of batting skills. Evarts started off the fifth inning rally with a double to left center driving in two RBI's. Hayden then used her bat to drive in Evarts followed by a double from Bolton to centerfield driving in Hayden. Hubbard picked up two RBI's on a single up the middle, before a double by Jenna Downey drove her in. Just like her teammate before her Amanda Blakely mirrored Downey, driving in an RBI herself. To cap off the fifth inning, Duggan sent a triple down the left field line to score Blakely.

Johnson added two strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth inning to hold off Fredonia and the Golden Eagles came away with the run-rule victory.
