The SUNY Brockport baseball team won its 10th straight contest in convincing fashion as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 23-4 victory at home against Cazenovia on Monday afternoon. Brockport scored 16 runs over the course of the first three innings on its way to a dominant 19 run victory. Brockport's 23 runs came on 23 hits as 13 different players registered at least one hit for the streaking Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles (13-2, 7-1 SUNYAC), who are receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com National Poll, are awaiting a potential reschedule for their road trip to Cortland on Wednesday afternoon. The current forecast calls for snow in central and western New York on Wednesday. James Houlahan went 4-for-5 at the dish with three runs scored and two RBI's. His two-run homer in the bottom of the first gave Brockport an 8-0 lead. Senior Skylar Orvhall went 1-for-2 with four RBI's and one run scored as his second inning grand slam gave Brockport a 12-0 lead.
Sam Law registered his first collegiate hit in the contest, but he did not stop there and finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI's and one run scored.
Ryan Voight was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's, while
Nick Debrino went 2-for-3 with two RBI's as well.
Freshman catcher
David Belsito got the start behind the plate for Coach Beach and he did not disappoint as he went 2-for-3 in the batter's box with two runs scored and two RBI's. Shortstop
Justin Pangburn was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, while
Zach Goldberg was 1-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Centerfielder
Nicholas Pastore was 1-for-1 on the day with two runs scored and one RBI. Second baseman
Daniel DelGaizo scored two runs for the Golden Eagles, as did
Tom Kretzler.
Ryan Mansell made the most of two at-bats as he went 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored.
Logan Wing also scored his first career run for the home team.
Seven different pitchers toed the rubber for Brockport.
Kobie Punchard picked up his second victory of the season as he went 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit and one run while striking out five for Brockport. Justin Delvecchio came on in relief of Punchard and gave up just one hit in 1.1 innings of work.
Brandon Greenspan was flawless with two K's in 1.0 innings, while
Nathan Valentine added one strikeout for the Golden Eagle pitching staff.
Brockport led 16-1 through six innings and added six more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
