The SUNY Brockport softball team racked up 15 hits in game two and earned a convincing 9-1 run-rule victory over visiting Buffalo State to earn the series split on Monday afternoon. Buffalo State won game one by the score of 4-1.
Olivia Hayden went 4-for-8 on the day with one run scored and one RBI, while shortstop
Emily Willis-Nersinger went 4-for-6 on the afternoon with three runs scored.
Amanda Blakely posted two hits, three RBI's and one run scored over the course of two games, while
Madison Evarts went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
Senior pitcher
Julia Palopoli struck out four and allowed just four hits and one run in the game two victory for the Golden Eagles.
Brockport's record moved to 5-5 overall and 5-5 in SUNYAC play following the game two win. Buffalo State's record moved to 9-9 and 6-6 in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles will take one day off before returning to play on Wednesday at home when they will take on SUNY Geneseo in conference play at 3 p.m.
Buffalo State 4, Brockport 1 – Game One Final
Catherine Johnson got the start in the circle for the Golden Eagles in game one and she pitched a complete game while striking out six, but it was not enough as the Bengals picked up the 4-1 victory.
Buffalo State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before the Golden Eagles were able to push their lone run of game one across the board.
Cameryn Duggan reached on an error for Brockport, scoring
Emily Willis-Nersinger to account for the Brockport run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bengals added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
Willis-Nersinger went 2-for-3 for Brockport in game one, while
Jenna Downey,
Olivia Hayden,
Emma DeJesus and
Syd Bolton each posted one hit in the opener.
Brockport 9, Buffalo State 1 – Game Two Final (5 Inn.)
Brockport got the bats going in game two and Palopoli pitched a gem in the circle to pace the Golden Eagles to the eight-run victory in five innings. Eight of Brockport's nine runs came in the first two innings.
Molly Ryan got things started for Brockport when she roped a two-RBI single up the middle and scored two runs to give Brockport the early 3-0 advantage. Blakely, Evarts and Hayden then followed with RBI's to give Brockport a commanding 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Blakely's second inning single scored two more runs for the Golden Eagles and they found themselves with an 8-0 lead after two full innings.
Jenna Downey closed the game out with a bases loaded single up the middle, scoring Evarts, to hand Brockport the game two victory via run-rule in just five innings.
Eight of Brockport's nine hitters posted at least one hit in game two. Hayden led the way going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Ryan went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Blakely was 2-for-3 with three RBI's and Evarts was a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
