The SUNY Brockport men's and women's track & field teams both placed second Saturday at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. The meet marked the Golden Eagle's first action back since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 NCAA Div. III Indoor Championships. The men's team posted 173 team points, while the women compiled 130 team points.
Tony DeYoung got his outdoor season started strong with a victory in the shot put as he posted a throw of 15.19m. The Brockport throwers dominated the hammer throw by taking the top four finishing spots.
Matthew Jackson was the top finisher at the meet with a collegiate best throw of 50.81, while
Elijah Washington added a second place finish with a throw of 50.03 meters.
Matt Faulise placed third (49.39 meters) and DeYoung placed fourth with a toss of 46.38.
Art Jordan added a second place finish behind DeYoung with a throw of 14.93 meters in the shot put.
Matt Faulise added a fifth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.60 meters.
Brandon Leiter and
Joseph Gefell picked up second and third place in the high jump with clearances of 1.85 meters and 1.80 meters, respectively.
DeYoung also added a victory in the discus with a toss of 46.79 meters.
Devin Kipp,
Art Jordan and
John Demy finished in third, fourth and fifth place in the discus with throws of 45.86m, 45.07m and 40.70m, respectively. The discus throw was a collegiate best for both Jordan and Demy.
Jack Brundage,
Mike Panzarino and
Elijah Washington placed second, third and fourth in the javelin throw. Brundage led the Golden Eagles with a throw of 47.96, while Panzarino added a distance of 42.26 meters and Washington posted a toss of 40.85 meters.
Egypt Page and
Taj Shaw took the top two spots in the long jump. Page posted a distance of 7.17 meters in his first jump back since the 2020 indoor season, while Shaw added a long jump of 6.89 meters. Shaw also won the triple jump with a leap of 13.87 meters in his first jump back since last indoor season.
Brandon Leiter placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.70.
Egypt Page and
Devin Kipp finished 1-2 in the men's 100 meter dash with times of 11.20 and 11.26.
Nelson Rosario took home third place for Brockport in the 400 meter race with a time of 56.09.
Panzarino added a third place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.80 meters.
Brockport returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Geneseo Big Tree Invitational. Friday's meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
