Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport tennis team got its first win of the season on Saturday, taking down the Fredonia Blue Devils, 6-3. The Golden Eagles improve to 1-3 overall and in SUNYAC play.
Brockport earned wins in the first and doubles slots, taking two of the three points from duos.
Caroline Stewart and
Sarah Mahar snagged a point in the first slot with an 8-2 win in the set. In the second doubles matchup the pairing of
Andrea Banke and
Linda Coleman Lawrence earned the 8-4 win.
Caroline Stewart battled hard for the point in the first singles match. After falling 4-6 in the first set, she bounced back to win the second and third sets 6-2, 6-1. In second singles
Sarah Mahar took care of business with a two-set win 7-5, 6-4.
For the third singles match
Linda Coleman Lawrence got the nod, as she secured another point for the Green and Gold with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Andrea Banke got the win in the fourth slot for solo play with 6-2, 7-5 wins in two sets.
Brockport overcame two points awarded to Fredonia that were uncontested due to having only five active players for the match. The team snaps a three-match losing skid with the win on the road.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow for a battle with the Oswego State Lakers. This conference matchup will be the final match of the regular season and is set to start at 1 pm.
