Game 2 Goes to Extra Innings in Split with Fredonia

Brockport, NY – The Brockport softball went 1-1 at home on Sunday in a doubleheader against Fredonia. The Golden Eagles took game one, 4-1, before they fell 14-11, in extra innings, in the second contest.
 
Annie Dipirro came up with a big hit every time Brockport needed one, finishing the day with five RBIs from three hits. Amanda Blakely was fantastic at the plate, going 5-for-7 with one run scored and a walk. Emma DeJesus registered four RBIs, three runs scored, and went 4-for-9 at the dish.
 
After the split, Brockport is now 7-7 overall and 7-7 in SUNYAC play with just one doubleheader remaining on the regular season schedule.
 
Game 1
 
The visiting Blue Devils would strike first with a solo homer from Nicole Kumro in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Annie Dipirro would erase that deficit with a two RBI single in the third, scoring teammates Emma DeJesus and Olivia Hayden. After Dipirro gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead, the team would score two more insurance runs in the fourth to secure the 4-1 victory.
 
Catherine Johnson (5-2) struck out six batters in her seventh complete game of the season. She earned the win from the circle while only allowing one run to score and walking just one batter in seven innings.
 
Amanda Blakely was a perfect 3-for-3 with the bat in game one with one run scored and a stolen base. Madison Evarts scored one run as well and also knocked in one run thanks to her 1-for-3 effort at the plate. Emma DeJesus also registered an RBI, while Dipirro was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
 
Emily Chelius (2-6) got the losing decision as the pitcher for Fredonia, throwing one strike out in six innings of work. Nicole Kumro's home run would be the only run scored for the Blue Devils in the first contest.
 
Game 2
 
The second game of the doubleheader was wild one, as Fredonia set the tempo of the game with a huge 9-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning. After placing some runners on the bases, Emma DeJesus gave the Golden Eagles life with a two RBI single up the middle in the bottom of four.
 
 After DeJesus' at-bat in the fourth inning, Brockport put its rally caps on. Emily Willis-Nersinger, Cameryn Duggan, Emma DeJesus, and Annie Dipirro all brought runs in to tie the game up at 9-9 going into the sixth inning. The Blue Devils manufactured two more runs in the next two innings to go back up 11-9. However, the Green and Gold answered right away with two more runs in the seventh. Dipirro knocked in a clutch RBI once again, while teammate Jenna Downey connected for an RBI double to tie the game.
 
After seven the score was tied at 9-9 so the contest headed into the eighth inning for this SUNYAC battle. Fredonia found three runs in the top of the eighth, including a two RBI single from Alyssa Piniewski. Trailing 14-11 in extra innings, Brockport was unable to rally a third time and took the game two loss.
 
Megan Van Dorn got the start in the circle for the Green and Gold, getting one strike out in just under four innings of work. Macy Kane (0-2) got the losing decision after entering to pitch midway through the contest. Kane struck out two and walked just one batter in 4.1 innings pitched.
 
Emma DeJesus was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk in a strong game two performance. Annie Dipirro went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the contest. Both Emily Willis-Nersinger and Kacie Hubbard had three hits in five at-bats.
 
Cameryn Duggan connected for a double and scored three runs for Brockport. Madison Evarts and Olivia Hayden both made it around to touch home plate twice in the extra innings loss.
 
Katie Yudin (4-3) got the win at pitcher for Fredonia, throwing for 4.2 innings and allowing three earned runs. Yudin also batted 2-for-4 in the game with a double and two RBIs. Eva Fitzsimmons had a home run and a double to help the Blue Devils move to 7-11 overall and 7-7 in the conference.
 
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday for a home doubleheader against Geneseo, which will mark the end of the regular season. Game one's first pitch is scheduled to be tossed out at 3 pm at the Clark V. Whited Complex.
