Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team travels across town to take on St. John Fisher this Saturday. This matchup is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.
Last Time Out: The Green and Gold hosted Alfred University earlier in the week for a non-conference battle. The visiting Saxons narrowly escaped with a 3-2 win, pushing Brockport's record to 1-1-1 overall. Alfred scored twice in the first half to take the lead, but Brockport's goal right before half made it a 2-1 game. The home team would get on the board quickly in the second, but Alfred's third goal sealed the deal.
Finding the Net: Katie Hotaling still leads the team with three goals, coming from her hat trick in a win against Houghton College. Julia Mascaro and Franchesca Polcaro both scored in the match with Alfred, notching their first goals of the season. Sydnee Smith and Lara Kanbur have also found the back of the net once for the squad so far this year.
Moving the Ball: Julia Mascaro has been effective as a distributer from her midfielder role, leading the way with three assists. Sam Maghrak and Katherine Olsen both earned assists in their last outing, making it one apiece so far in 2021. Both Camryn Pettit and Sophia DeAngelo have each been credited with one assist this season.
Back in Net: Kayla Usborne has been the starter in goal for all three of Brockport's matches. Facing 33 shots in over 250 minutes of time, she has made 15 saves. Usborne and Guliana Parisi combined to record a shutout in the team's 4-0 win over Houghton.
Schedule Change: It was recently announced that the squad's September 13th game at home against SUNY Canton has been cancelled. A make-up date for this non-conference contest has yet to be announced.
Looking at Fisher: The St. John Fisher Cardinals look great to start the season, holding a 2-0 record overall. The team is outscoring its opponents 11-1, after earning wins against Buffalo State and Washington & Jefferson. The last time the Cardinals faced Brockport was during the 2019 season, which featured a 2-1 overtime win for Brockport thanks to Franchesca Polcaro's game winner.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles are back home on Wednesday, September 15th for some more non-conference action. They take on Keuka College for a 4 pm start.
