Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team is set to host the Golden Eagle Invitational this weekend. The action gets started Friday night at 5 pm with a matchup against the University of Rochester.
 
Other Matchups: Following the first contest of the weekend Brockport will continue later on Friday night with a 7:30 pm battle against Thiel. Looking on to Saturday's schedule, the team will take on Ithaca at 1:30 pm. The weekend will come to an end after a 3:30 pm matchup with Nazareth on Saturday. Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles took down the visiting Redhawks from Roberts Wesleyan in their last outing. They earned the 3-0 sweep, winning all three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-14. This marks the third win in a row for the squad heading into the Golden Eagle Invitational this weekend.
 
AVCA Week1 Poll: In the AVCA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll, SUNY Brockport was featured in the receiving votes category. After a 4-1 start to the season, the team continues to gain attention from those voting. On Tuesday, September 7^th the AVCA released its Week 1 Coaches Poll which saw Brockport in the receiving votes section once again.
 
Watch Out: Andrea Coyle, Megan Loomis, and Meaghan Mastro are the trio leading the team in kills so far this season. Coyle is tops on the stat sheet, owning 54 kills and averaging 3.18 kills per set. Loomis is right behind her teammate with 3.00 kills per set and a total of 42 kills. Mastro has 40 kills at this point, owning a mark of 2.22 kills per set. With 32 kills on the season, Myah Frostclapp has the highest attack percentage on the team of .370.
 
Helping Hands: Kerri McHale and Ashley Allen have done a great job setting their teammates up for attacks early on. McHale leads Brockport with 101 assists from the setter position, which calculates to 6.31 assists per set. Allen is second with 73 assists on the year, averaging 5.21 assists per set.
 
Just Keep Digging: Madalyn Bowen's effort on the defensive side of the net has her leading the way with 87 digs thus far. She owns a team best tally of 5.12 digs per set heading into the busy weekend. Kerri McHale (40), Andrea Coyle (37), Meaghan Mastro (36), and Shelby Budnick (33) have all contributed more than 30 digs on the season.
 
U of R: The University of Rochester Yellowjackets are fresh off of hosting their own tournament last weekend. Going 3-1 at the UR Invitational, they now hold a 4-1 record overall. The team is rolling after winnings its last two matches, taking both by way of a 3-0 sweep against Oneonta and Medaille.
 
Thiel: The Thiel College Tomcats have struggled so far this season, owning an overall mark of 0-6 so far. They have lost three straight by way of 0-3 sweeps against Mount Union, Geneseo, and Baldwin Wallace. The squad has been swept four times already this year and has only earned two total match points in six outings.
 
Ithaca: The Ithaca College Bombers have faced some tough competition on their way to a 1-4 start to the 2021 season. After defeating Cortland in the season opener, they have lost four straight matches heading into the weekend. Included in this stretch are losses to St. John Fisher and Scranton, as well as nationally ranked opponents #14 Juniata and #2 Johns Hopkins. Despite a slow start the Bombers have joined Brockport in the receiving votes category in the AVCA Division III Week 1 Coaches Poll.
 
Nazareth: The Golden Flyers enter the Golden Eagle Invitational with a 2-1 mark overall. At the Cortland Invite last weekend they started off with wins over St. Lawrence, 3-1, and Arcadia, 3-2. Nazareth closed out the invitational with a 1-3 loss to the hosting Cortland Red Dragons.
 
Looking Ahead: After a busy weekend at home, the Golden Eagles hit the road on Wednesday, September 15^th. They open up SUNYAC play with a 6 pm matchup against SUNY Geneseo.
