Bport Wins Third Straight; Stefaniw Scores Three in Big Win Over Elmira

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team scored six goals on a combined shutout effort, handing Elmira its first loss of the season. With the win, Brockport improves its winning streak to three games in a row with a record to 3-1-1, while Elmira falls to 3-1.
 
The main story of the night came from Matthew Stefaniw, who scored his first collegiate hat trick to start out the game 3-0 for the Golden Eagles. Stafaniw's first goal came at the 3:46 mark. Setting up the goal was Colby Egan who made at great pass to Noah Mohamed on the left side of the field who then managed to cross a pass right in front of the goal for Stefaniw to make the sliding playing, which was perfectly executed to put the Green and Gold up 1-0.
 
Stefaniw's second goal of the night came off a throw in by the Golden Eagles in Elmira's defensive zone. After a save by Elmira and a scramble Infront of the net, Stefaniw managed to get the best of the Soaring Eagles defense to put Brockport up 2-0 at the 24:38 mark. Stefaniw's night would not stop there when at the 31:53 mark he would score his third goal of the game after a cross in front of the net from Josh Fitzpatrick would lead him to earn his SUNYAC leading seventh goal and 14th point of the season.
 
The three goals for Stefaniw weren't the end of the Green and Gold's goal parade as three different Golden Eagle's would tally their first goal for Brockport. Josiah Fragnito, a transfer from division II Cedarville, tallied the last goal of the first half for Brockport as he fired off a shot just inside the top of the goalie box to increase the teams lead to 4-0.
 
At the 74:37 mark, Colton McCane would fire off his first collegiate goal, after a pass from Brian Fornelo would set up McCane to get off a laser of a shot just inside the top left corner of Elmira's goalie box to increase the teams lead to 5-0.
 
Finishing off the Golden Eagles effort was Cody Sherlock who scored off a header from Nick Van Wie whose crossing pass just in front of the Brockport bench gave sherlock the goal to finalize the green and Gold's 6-0 victory over the Soaring Eagles.
 
Andrew Taylor played 44 minutes in the first half of the game and managed to make two saves against three of Elmira's shots on goal. After playing for one minute in the first half, junior Ryan Gall would make his colligate debut in goal for the Golden Eagles. staying in and playing the whole second half of the game, Gall made one save on one shot on goal in his first appearance as the two Brockport goalkeepers would receive the combined shutout. Taylor recorded the win and is now 3-1-1 overall this season. Giovanni Garufi played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Soaring Eagles allowing six goals on 16 shots and 11 shots on goal by Brockport. Garufi's record now drops to 3-1.
 
Brockport will start a six-game road trip with its first opponents coming on Tuesday, September 14th against the Highlanders of Houghton College at 7pm.
