Brockport, NY- The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team fell in its SUNYAC opener on the road at New Paltz, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.
Matthew Stefaniw netted the lone goal in the contest for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport (4-2-1, 0-1-0) looks to get back on track on the road Saturday when they continue the SUNYAC schedule against Oneonta at 1 pm. New Paltz improved its record to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Brockport came out of the gates hot as it only took them about two minutes to score its first goal of the game. The goal was scored by
Matthew Stefaniw which was unassisted. The goal marks Stefaniw's eighth of the season which seats him back in the sole spot at the top of SUNYAC in goals scored by an individual.

With Brockport maintaining the 1-0 lead for 40 minutes of play, New Paltz would capitalize on its penalty kick opportunity taken by Joesph DipPeta. DiPreta's PK goal would even up the score at one a piece for both sides as they entered halftime.

Owen McGarrity gave the Hawks the lead in the second half at the 62:59 mark of the game when he managed to score the game-winning goal. The goal was assisted by Tim Kane when Owen McGarrity was able to find Kane's cross to score the header putting the Hawks up 2-1.

Andrew Taylor stopped one shot in goal for the Golden Eagles.Â
Overall, the two teams played an even match. Both teams recorded 10 shots in the contest, four saves, with New Paltz only recording one more corner kick than the Golden Eagles.
