Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team defeated visiting St. John Fisher by a score of 4-1 in Wednesday night's matchup. Brockport has now won two in a row and advances its record to 2-1-1 overall this season while St. John. Fisher falls to 1-2.
The story of the night came from Brockport's leading goal scorer as
Matthew Stefaniw managed to score two goals on the night. His first goal came at the 34:20 mark when a pass from defender
Wilson Wong gave Stefaniw the opportunity to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 going into the half.
Six short minutes following the start of the second half, Stefaniw scored again off an assist from junior
Seamus Parker who picked up his fist assist of the season. Just under four minutes following the Green and Gold's second goal, Wong added a goal to his stat column with a crossing pass assist from
Noah Mohamed, marking his team-high second assist of the season.
Finishing off the Golden Eagle's goal parade was
Seamus Parker who scored his first goal at the 58:28 mark on a header off a crisp crossing kick from
Giovanni Cardona.
Jackson Bishop was the lone goal scorer for St. John Fisher as he capitalized off a Brockport foul for a successful penalty kick. In total, Brockport outshot St. John Fisher 14-7. The Green and Gold managed eight shots on goal compared to Fisher's six with the Golden Eagles also having a slight advantage in corner kicks of 4-3. Both teams were even in fouls with six a piece.
Nine different Golden Eagles had opportunities to fire shots on goal with Stefaniw leading the night with four shots, three coming on goal and netting two for goals. His 17 shots and eight points puts him at second place in points in the SUNYAC this season.
Andrew Taylor was in net for the Golden Eagles again making his fourth start this season. His one goal tonight ended his scoreless streak at 269:03 continuous minutes. Taylor made five saves on six shots on goal for Brockport and increased his goals against average to 1.18 and improving his record to 2-1-1. Jadon Schlierf was the starting goaltender for St. John Fisher as he allowed four goals while making four saves before being substituted by Ethan Doerschuk with 15:45 remaining in the game.
The Golden Eagles will next host Elmira College on Saturday, September 11th at 6 p.m. on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport, NY.
