Brockport Hits the Road for a Weekend of SUNYAC Action

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team is on the road this weekend for a pair of conference matches against Plattsburgh and Potsdam. Brockport faces Plattsburgh at 6pm on Friday and then takes on Potsdam at 1pm on Saturday.
 
Last Weekend: Brockport split a pair of matches at home last weekend during Homecoming Weekend. The team swept the Oswego State Lakers, 3-0, in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. The very next day the Green and Gold played five sets in a 3-2 loss to Cortland. Brockport won the first two sets before dropping the next three to the Red Dragons. The team enters this weekend with a 14-5 overall record and 4-1 mark in the SUNYAC.
 
SUNYAC Standings: The Golden Eagles are currently sitting in second place in the conference standings with their 4-1 mark against league opponents. They are tied with New Paltz in the standings, as the two trail only Cortland which is 7-0 in the SUNYAC. The full conference standings are as follows: 1. Cortland, 2. Brockport, 3. New Paltz, 4. Buffalo State, 5. Oswego, 6. Fredonia, 7. Geneseo, 8. Oneonta, 9. Potsdam, 10. Plattsburgh.
 
Leading the Conference: With totals of 299 points and 225 kills, senior Jordan Thompson is currently at the top of the SUNYAC in both statistical categories. Thompson is also first with an average of 4.3 points per set and ranks second in the league with 3.26 kills per set. Andrea Coyle is right behind her teammate, at second in the SUNYAC with 251 points and 214 kills. Coyle holds the third best rating in both kills per set (3.15) and points per set (3.7).
 
Setting the Table: Brockport's setters Kerri McHale and Ashley Allen have both been great at setting teammates up all year. McHale is fifth in the conference with a total of 371 assists. Allen is also top 10 in the SUNYAC, making 297 assists to rank seventh. They both are averaging more than five assists per set in 2022.
 
Defensive Leaders: Myah Frostclapp and Madalyn Bowen have been fantastic for the Golden Eagles this season. Frostclapp is second in the SUNYAC with 62 total blocks, racking up 13 solo blocks and 49 assisted. Bowen has tallied 297 digs on the season, which ranks second in the conference. Teammate Andrea Coyle has come up with 240 digs to place her at fifth in the SUNYAC.
 
Looking at Plattsburgh: With a 4-11 record overall and a 0-6 mark in the conference, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals enter Friday night's matchup on an eight-match losing streak. Their last win came back on September 16th against Russell Sage Colleges, 3-1. Jenn Braun leads the team with 103 kills, while Jeannette Ashong has 38 total blocks to lead the Cardinals. Going back to 2014, Brockport has swept Plattsburgh, 3-0, in seven straight meetings.
 
Looking at Potsdam: The Potsdam Bears head into the weekend with a 10-8 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the SUNYAC. They recently fell to both Fredonia and Buffalo State, 3-1, on the road. Jessica Ader leads the team with 172 kills so far, while Mikayla Myers is second on the team with 123. Brockport has won eight consecutive matches against Potsdam, including five by way of a 3-0 sweep.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend for another set of road contests. They travel to face Fredonia on Friday, October 21st at 6pm before a 4pm matchup with Buffalo State on Saturday, October 22nd.
