Brockport Hosts #15 Cortland for Major SUNYAC Matchup on Senior Day

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team will host #15 SUNY Cortland on Saturday, October 22 for a big-time conference clash. This SUNYAC battle will begin at 1pm, as Brockport celebrates Senior Day before the final match of the regular season.

Senior Day: Brockport will be taking time to celebrate Senior Day prior to the start of the match against Cortland. There will be a short ceremony beforehand to honor the participating seniors, as we thank them for their dedication and contributions to the program. The five seniors to be recognized on Saturday include: Kolbi Maddy, Josh Fitzpatrick, Seamus Parker, Ryan Gall, and Matthew Stefaniw.

What's at Stake: The matchup with nationally-ranked SUNY Cortland this weekend could have heavy postseason implications. Brockport is currently at the top of the conference with 19 points in the standings from a 6-1-1 mark. Cortland is close behind at 5-0-2 heading into the week, with 17 points and a match against Oneonta on Wednesday. It is likely that the winner of Saturday's game in Brockport will decide who claims the number one seed for the SUNYAC Tournament.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles fell on the road to New Paltz, 1-0, this past weekend. They moved to 8-2-5 overall and 6-1-1 in the SUNYAC after the first conference loss of the year. The Hawks snagged an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half, as they outshot the Green and Gold 10-5 in the game. New Paltz was able to keep Brockport off the scoreboard for the one-goal victory.

Posting Points: Matthew Stefaniw leads the squad in total points and assists this season. His 14 points is tied for 11th in the conference and he is tied for fifth in the league with his four assists. Stefaniw is also second on the team with five goals, behind only Russ Domm. Domm is tied for eighth in the SUNYAC with six goals and his 13 points puts him at 13th in the conference.

Protecting the Net: Andrew Taylor continues his outstanding season in net for Brockport. He leads the SUNYAC in saves percentage, shutouts, goals against average, and is second in total saves. Taylor's seven shutouts has him tied for eighth most in the nation and his .852 saves percentage is 23rd in the country. He has made 52 saves for the Green and Gold and is averaging 0.60 goals per game.

Meet the Red Dragons: The Cortland Red Dragons are ranked 15th in the nation and are first in the region heading into the final week of the regular season. They are currently on a seven-match win streak, which has elevated the record to 11-3-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the SUNYAC. #10 Mateo Marra is the points leader in the conference, tallying 25 points on eight goals and nine assists. Cortland is the highest scoring team in the league, with four top-10 goal scorers in the SUNYAC. Luke van Galen has come up with 56 saves and earned a .757 saves percentage as the starting goalkeeper.

Against Cortland: Brockport has had the upper hand against Cortland in head-to-head matchups recently, winning two of the last three meetings. With all three of these games being played at Cortland, Brockport got wins of 3-2 and 2-0. With a 6-0 record at home this season, the Green and Gold have a chance to host Cortland this time around in a crucial conference contest.

SUNYACs Ahead: Regardless of Saturday's result the Golden Eagles have already clinched a spot in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. The first round of games is set for Saturday, October 29th. The top two seeds will earn a bye into the semifinals, which is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2nd. It all leads up to the SUNYAC Finals on Saturday, November 5th.

Awaiting Results: The final standings in the SUNYAC will be decided following this week's slate of matches. Brockport's next opponent will depend on the results around the conference and whether or not the team earns a first round bye.
