Cortland, NY – The SUNY Brockport Swimming and Diving team traveled to SUNY Cortland to compete against New Paltz, Cortland and Wells College in the Pumpkin Relays. All four teams had unlimited entries for the various relay events, and only the A and B relays were scored.
The women took first in the 400-yard medley relay after
Miya Vitale struck the lead in the backstroke leg.
Addy Martino kept the lead with a strong breaststroke before Emily LeFrois-Heath held it down in the butterfly leg. Senior Captain
Sawyer Parker brought the race home with the freestyle leg touching the pad with a 4:12.52. The men placed third in this same relay. The team of
Luca Olivieri,
Oliver Dragojevic,
Joe Keeney and
Jace Frederickson touched the pad with a 3:49.54.
The women finished 2
nd in the 650-yard relay made up of
Elizabeth Sagan,
Emma Purvis,
Nicole Orcutt and
Hannah Pauly.
Miya Vitale,
Sawyer Parker and
Corinne Wilson secured a third-place finish in the 300-yard backstroke relay.
Addy Martino,
Sam Whitman and
Teagan Makuch swam the 300-yard breaststroke relay, finishing in third with a time of 3:47.71. The men clinched the third place finish in the 300-yard breast stroke after a strong lead by Captain
Oliver Dragojevic, followed by
Taylan Getiren and
Luca Olivieri.
The women finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:32.76 and the men finished in fourth with a time of 8:27.80.
The women finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.90 made possible by
Elizabeth Sagan,
Nicole Orcutt,
Emma Purvis, and
Sawyer Parker.
Garrett Nanna,
Johannes Grinder,
Joe Keeney and
Jacob Hagen finished in fourth place with a time of 1:37.58.
Another first-place finish for the women in the 200-medley relay.
Miya Vitale led off the race with backstroke, once again in the lead coming into the second leg.
Addy Martino finished strong, followed by Emily LeFrois-Heath and brought home by
Elizabeth Sagan. The women swam a 1:54.49. The men finished second with a time of 1:43.72 in the 200-medley. Olivieri took the backstroke followed by Dragojevic, Keeney and Frederickson once again.
Ren Watson finished in third place on the 1-meter board with a score of 193.25, and third on the 3 meters with a score of 184.50.
Kurt Mueller finished in second place with a score of 239.40 on the 1-meter. Mueller placed second on the 3-meter with a score of 223.75.
Overall, both the men's and women's team placed third. The women finished with a total score of 174 and the men finished with 134.
The SUNY Brockport Swimming and Diving team will return to the pool next Saturday, October 29
th at 1pm at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY.
