Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team hosted SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday for Brockport's final game of the season. Brockport gave up two second half goals on the way to the 2-0 loss at home.
Despite being outshot in the first half, 6-0, Brockport kept it a scoreless game through 30 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper
Katelynn Banning made five stops in net in the first two quarters to keep it a 0-0 tie at halftime.
Banning played a full shift in net, notching a new career-high 12 saves.
The third quarter had lots of action, including the first score of the match. Geneseo's Olivia Hernick scored at the 39:48 mark in the contest to put the Knights up, 1-0. The Golden Eagles threatened with three shots on goal in the third, but Geneseo maintained the one-goal lead going into the fourth.
With the game beginning to wind down, Geneseo would add an insurance score by Maggie Phipps with less than four minutes to play. Olivia Vinciguerra was credited with the assist, as the visiting Knights went up 2-0.
Geneseo held on for the 2-0 win, improving to 14-2 overall and 6-0. The Knights are the number one seed heading into the SUNYAC Tournament.
The Golden Eagles finish the year 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.
