Women's Soccer Eliminated from Postseason After Loss to New Paltz

New Paltz, NY – On Saturday, the Golden Eagles traveled to take on No. 3 New Paltz for the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament. They were defeated by the higher-seeded Hawks, 5-2, ending the 2022 season.
 
The No. 6 seed Brockport received second half goals from both Lara Kanbur and Megan Gerber. Kanbur scored her first goal of the season 14:35 into the second half, unassisted. Gerber also was unassisted on her score, coming with less than two minutes to play, as she notched the first of her collegiate career.
 
New Paltz got on the board early to take a 1-0 lead, with a score in the 11th minute of the match. The Hawks would go on to score three times in the opening half of play. They would lead Brockport 3-0 at halftime of this SUNYAC 1st Round battle.
 
As the second half began, it did not take long for New Paltz to add to its lead. The home team scored two more goals in the first six minutes of the second half to make it a 5-0 game. To erase the clean sheet, Lara Kanbur scored in the 60th minute to make the score, 5-1.
 
Megan Gerber's goal in the final minutes would cut the New Paltz lead down to 5-2 for what became the final result. Brockport was outshot, 23-8, but drew one more corner kick than the opponent.
 
Kayla Usborne and Madeline McCrosson both served time in net for the Green and Gold. Usborne finished with nine saves and McCrosson stopped three shots in the contest.
 
New Paltz advances to the SUNYAC Semifinals to take on Geneseo on Wednesday, November 2nd at 1pm to fight for a spot in the championship match.
 
The Golden Eagles will conclude the year 5-9-3 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play, after being eliminated from the postseason after Saturday's loss.
