Brockport Pulls Out, 71-67, Win Over Hobart at Home

Brockport, NY – With a tight, 71-67, win over Hobart at home, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team improves to 2-1 overall on the season.
 
David Grady III led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 21 points. He was unstoppable in the painted area, going 9-for-12 from the field. Grady also had three boards, two blocks, two assists, and one steal.
 
Brockport had four players score in the double-digits Wednesday night. Mekhi Beckett finished with 14 points, while Tony Arnold scored 10 in the game. Colby Jordan hit 4-of-5 shots from the field for 11 points, his first double-digit scoring output of the season.
 
The Golden Eagles attacked the basket all game long for easy looks in the paint. They scored 50 points in the paint, outscoring Hobart under the hoop by 20 points. Good looks at the basket translated to efficient scoring with Brockport's field goal percentage of 53.7%.
 
To get the action started in the first half, the two teams traded blows early on. The score stayed close all the way through the first 20 minutes, as the game was tied at 26-26 with 5:04 left until halftime. Hobart's Jackson Meshanic sank a free throw to complete a 3-point play to end the half, putting his team up 33-32.
 
In the first half, the visiting Statesmen had advantages at the free throw line and beyond the arc to help create a slim lead. They went 4-for-13 from long range and 7-for-8 at the foul line. Brockport was 4-for-4 at the free throw line and went without a make from deep going into halftime.
 
The Green and Gold would create a small edge on the scoreboard as the second half got going. However, Hobart kept fighting back to tie the score up again at 48-48 with 9:48 on the clock. Colby Jordan would spark a quick run for Brockport to give the team an 8-point lead.
 
The tone of the game would take a turn as Brockport received a collection of technical fouls that Hobart took advantage of. After hitting some free throws, the Statesmen found themselves down just, 61-59, with about four minutes left in regulation.
 
Mekhi Beckett would step up for the Golden Eagles down the stretch to close out the game. In the final three minutes he scored eight consecutive points for the squad. Beckett's run helped lift Brockport to the 4-point win on its home floor.
 
Hobart moves to 2-2 overall on the season after the loss. The team had three double-digit scorers, as both Andrew Lynch and Patrick Walker scored 14. Jackson Meshanic posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Golden Eagles are on the road for the next contest on the schedule. They take on York College at 5pm on Tuesday, November 22nd down in Jamaica, NY.
