Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport men and women's track and field team began the indoor season on Friday at the Nazareth Alumni Opener. There were no calculated team scores, however Brockport's men snagged five first-place finishes while the women took first in three events on the day.
National qualifier from last year,
Josh Jeziorski, was able to claim the top spot in two separate events. He ran a regional qualifying time of 7.09 to earn first in the men's 60-meter dash. Jeziorski also took the top spot with a leap of 7.20 meters in the long jump.
Teammate
Alex Irving won his event as well, recording a triple jump of 14.36 meters. Freshman pole vaulter,
Dustin Meyer placed first in the event with a clearance height of 4.55 meters.
Nick Markle ran a personal-record time of 1:07.50 to win the 500-meter race. His time in the event ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Jonathan Zavala's time of 8:42.35 in the 3,000-meter earned him third place, a new personal-record, and clocks in as the eighth fastest event finish in program history. In the same race,
Thomas Kressly,
Paul Suflita, and
Gabriel Winters-Bona placed fourth, fifth, and sixth. Kressly's 8:43.34 PR was good for the ninth fastest time in history. All four runners eclipsed the regional qualifying time for the event.
Dillon VanDemortel finished second for the Golden Eagles in the men's mile race. He clocked in at 4:30.20 as their first runner to cross the finish line in the event. In the 1,000-meter
Kevin Fischer placed fifth with a time of 2:39.70.
Howard Nix took third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.29, just 0.20 seconds behind Jeziorski's time in the event.
With a 3:06.71, Jennifer Metz won the 1,000-meter race on the women's side of the action. Her time is good for the sixth fastest time in program history. Teammate Lucia Sibley was close behind in second place with a 3:08.39, the ninth fastest 1,000-meter time in history.
Michaela Levesque snagged first place in the high jump competition for Brockport. She took the top spot thanks to her clearance height of 1.57 meters.
Sarah Crockett led a group of four Top-5 shot put throwers from Brockport. Crockett's first place throw of 12.72 meters set the standard on the day. Maleenah Ortiz earned second with a toss of 11.89 meters, Emma Kinnicutt's 11.37 meters was good for fourth, and Trinity Dees took fifth with a mark of 11.23 meters.
Veronica Dailey was a third-place finisher in the 3,000-meter, recording a personal-best time of 10:47.99. Sarah Crockett was back in the spotlight in the weight throw with a personal-record mark of 16.09 meters to take second in the event.
In the women's 60-meter, Mia Montgomery's time of 7.97 beat the regional qualifying mark and earned her second in the event. She ran a PR of 7.90 in the preliminaries, taking first in her heat. Montgomery also took third with a personal-best mark of 5.51 meters in the long jump.
The Golden Eagles have time to prepare for their next meet after the holiday break. They will get ready to compete on Saturday, January 14
th at the Utica Winter Opener, hosted by Utica University at 10 am.
