Brockport Travels for Pair of Contests This Week

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will play two road contests this week. Brockport will take on Fredonia at 7:30pm on Tuesday, December 6th before heading to Morrisville on Friday for a 6pm tip-off.
 
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles had their five-game win streak halted Saturday night, falling to Cortland, 63-60. Brockport suffers its first conference loss of the season to move to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. The Cortland Red Dragons were able to sink a pair of crucial free throws with five seconds remaining to go up by three points. Brockport was unable to tie the game in the final moments, resulting in the close loss.
 
Wallace Finding a Rhythm: In the matchup with Cortland, Jahidi Wallace notched a double-double for the second straight game, finishing with team-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds. He posted is first double-double of the season as Brockport defeated #12 Oswego, shooting 8-for-14 from the field on the way to 21 points and 11 rebounds. Averaging 15.7 points a game, Wallace has now scored 20 or more in three straight games.
 
Mekhi Buckets: Reigning SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Mekhi Beckett has been the team's leading scorer so far this season. He is averaging 19.1 points a game with shooting splits of 42.2% FG, 31.6% 3FG, and 75% FT. Beckett has scored in the double-digits in all but one game thus far, including a career-high 33 points against Keystone earlier in the year.
 
Two-Way Impact: Both Tony Arnold and David Grady III have proven capable of impacting the game on both sides of the ball for the Green and Gold. Arnold is scoring 11.7 points a game and leads the team with a total of 23 steals (3.3 spg). DGIII has had a similar impact on the interior for the squad. The forward is putting up 11.6 points a night and has sent back 22 (3.1 bpg) shots protecting the rim on defense. Grady also leads the team with 8.4 boards a game, while Arnold chips in with 5.1 rebounds on average.
 
Down in Daytona: Following this week's action the Golden Eagles will prepare for a trip down south to compete at the Mauro Panaggio Invitational in Daytona Beach, FL. Brockport is joined by MCLA, Northern Vermont University, and Illinois College for the event, hosted by DME Academy. Brockport will face MCLA at 12pm on Sunday, December 18th to start the action. Northern Vermont and Illinois will play at 2pm on Sunday. Monday, December 19th will mark the final day of play with the consolation game starting at 12pm and the championship game set for 2pm.
 
Looking at Fredonia: The Fredonia State Blue Devils are still looking for their first win of the season, currently owning a record of 0-9 overall and 0-3 in the SUNYAC. #14 AJ Knight is the team's leading scorer and rebounder heading into Tuesday night's contest. Knight is averaging 14.9 points and 4.7 boards a game, while shooting 39.3% from long range. The Golden Eagles have defeated Fredonia in 11 consecutive meetings.
 
Looking at Morrisville: The Morrisville Mustangs have lost their last two games, pushing them to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in United East conference play. #3 Shykell Brown leads three double-digit scorers with and average of 17.0 points a game, while shooting 40.4% from deep. Teammate #30 Jordan Coard is putting up 13.6 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds a game. Coard is shooting a healthy 70.2% from the floor so far this season. Last year Brockport hosted the Mustangs, walking away with the 69-61 victory.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will move down to Daytona Beach, FL following this week's action to compete at the Mauro Panaggio Tournament, hosted by DME Academy. They will play MCLA on Sunday, December 18th to start the event.
