Men's Basketball Hits the Road This Weekend

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is on the road for a pair of SUNYAC contests this weekend. First up is a 7:30 pm tip-off against Potsdam on Friday night, and then the team heads over to Plattsburgh on Saturday for a 4 pm start.

Last Time Out: In the last outing, Brockport took down Geneseo at home, 73-57. Another impressive first half performance had the squad in the lead, 43-25, at the half. Despite Geneseo's efforts to get back into the game, the Knights were unable to make up the large deficit. Brockport improved to 13-6 overall and 8-5 in the SUNYAC, winning its third game in a row.

Double A in a Groove: Antonio Alvarez has been on fire during the squad's three game win streak. Over the last three games he has averaged 17.3 points per game and is shooting 50% from downtown. He has gone 12-for-24 from beyond the arc and has converted on 17-of-32 shots total. Alvarez and the team have gotten hot at the right time as the regular season is winding down.

SUNYAC Standings: At 8-5 in the SUNYAC, Brockport sits in the fourth spot in the conference standings going into the weekend. Oswego holds the top spot at 14-0 in the SUNYAC, as the only team to clinch a postseason spot so far. Oneonta is second at 10-4 and New Paltz is thirda t 9-5. Below Brockport in the standings sits Potsdam (8-6), Geneseo (7-7), Cortland (6-7), Buffalo State (3-11), Fredonia (3-11), and Plattsburgh (1-13). Plattsburgh is the only team so far that has already been eliminated from postseason contention.

Potsdam Matchup: The Golden Eagles defeated Potsdam earlier in the season, 94-73, behind Jahidi Wallace's 27-point performance. They snagged a large lead in the first half, scoring 51 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Mekhi Beckett added 18 points, Antonio Alvarez had 16, and David Grady III tallied 12 points. Brockport enters Friday's game with three straight wins over Potsdam, while also winning eight of the last ten matchups.

Plattsburgh Matchup: Brockport handed Plattsburgh a 92-62 loss earlier in the season, behind four double-digit scorers. Antonio Alvarez had 18 points, David Grady III scored 12, Joseph Pena had 12, and Mekhi Beckett finished with 11 points. The Cardinals had three double-digit scorers of their own, but a 54-point half to start the game gave Brockport a comfortable advantage. The Green and Gold have defeated Plattsburgh in eight of the last ten meetings between the two SUNYAC opponents.

Next Up: The Golden Eagles are on the road once again on Tuesday, February 15th. They take on Fredonia for a 7:30 pm start in the final week of the regular season.
