Men's Basketball Pulls Out 11-Point Victory Over Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team won its fourth game in a row on Friday night, 75-64, over Potsdam on the road. Mekhi Beckett led the way with game-highs of 19 points and five assists to go with six boards.

David Grady III finished with 16 points, four rebounds, and five blocks. Antonio Alvarez came away with 13 points and six boards before fouling out late in the second half. Beckett, Grady, and Alvarez combined were a perfect 20-for-20 at the free throw line, as the team shot a healthy 26-for-32 in the win.

Brockport had another impressive showing in the first half, as it shot 50% from the field and 100% at the charity stripe in the first 20 minutes of play. During this four-game win streak, the squad is averaging 48.8 points in the first half to earn an average margin of +23 points at the half. The Green and Gold led by 17 points at halftime over the Bears, with scoreboard reading 47-30. Although Potsdam had the edge early on, Brockport stole all the momentum and grabbed a double-digit lead before halftime.

The hometown Bears would fight back in the second half, cutting the deficit to single-digits less than seven minutes into the action. With 7:39 left in regulation, Potsdam tied the score up at 56-56. The Golden Eagles would outscore their opponent, 19-8, the rest of the way in an impressive effort to close out the game on the road. Free throw shooting proved to be valuable late in the contest, as they shot 12-for-18 at the line in the second half to secure the double-digit victory.

Potsdam's Tyrese Baptiste led the team with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. Baptiste also contributed three blocks and two steals defensively. MeSean Johnson and Jeff Williamson both scored 13 points in the loss, as the Bears are now 10-10 overall and 8-7 in the conference. They look to bounce back at home against Geneseo on Saturday.

Looking for a fifth consecutive win, the Golden Eagles are on the road again Saturday for a matchup against Plattsburgh. This SUNYAC battle tips-off at 4 pm.
