Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team is on the road this weekend for two SUNYAC contests. The squad takes on Potsdam at 5:30 pm on Friday and then head to Plattsburgh on Saturday for a 2 pm tip-off.
Last Time Out: The Green and Gold fell to Geneseo at home in the last outing, 62-48. Geneseo had two players score 18 points, while Brockport did not have anyone hit double-digits.
Serena Sordetto was the leading scorer with eight points off the bench. However, the scoring was balanced as
Erin Nolan,
Anna Felice,
Molly Mahony,
Erin Radack, and
Zoe Zutes all scored at least six points. The visiting Knights outpaced the squad, moving Brockport's record to 9-10 overall and 4-9 in the SUNYAC.
Road Trip: With five games left in the regular season, Brockport will be on the road for four straight games before hosting the season finale. The team begins the four-game stay away from The Vlog this weekend with trips to Potsdam and Plattsburgh. The road trip continues on Tuesday, February 15
th with a visit to Fredonia. Finally, the last road game of the regular season will be played on Friday, February 18
th against Oswego.
Play4Kay Game: On February 19
th the Golden Eagles will hosts their Play4Kay game raise funds for the Kay Yow Women's Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund. The WBCA works with college teams from across the country to organize these events to raise money in honor and memory of the former North Carolina State Head Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after a battle with cancer. Family, friends, and fans can help support the cause by pledging a dollar for every free throw the team makes in the month of February. SUNYAC Standings: Cortland has already clinched its spot in the postseason with a 13-0 mark in the conference, holding the top seed as of now. New Paltz (10-4), Buffalo State (9-5), and Geneseo (9-5) round out the top four spots in the current standings. The rest of the standings consists of the following: 5. Oneonta (8-6), 6. Potsdam (6-8), 7. Fredonia (5-9), 8. Brockport (4-9), 9. Plattsburgh (4-10), and 10. Oswego (1-13). Oswego is the only team so far that is officially eliminated from postseason contention.
Potsdam Matchup: The last battle against Potsdam had a tight finish, as the visiting Bears snuck away with a 53-50 win. Brockport made a strong comeback effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring the opponent 12-7 in the period. The squad had a last second 3-point attempt to tie the game up as time expired, but the shot was no good resulting in the loss.
Erin Nolan posted a double-double in the game with 10 points and 10 boards, while
Erin Radack also scored 10 points. Brockport enters this weekend's contest after winning eight of the last ten meetings with Potsdam.
Plattsburgh Matchup: Brockport defeated Plattsburgh in the last meeting between the two conference foes, 50-43.
Serena Sordetto led the team with 13 points in the contest and teammate
Chelsea Henry finished with 11 points. The Green and Gold outscored the Cardinals, 30-23 in the second half after the score was tied at halftime. The win makes it three in a row for the team over Plattsburgh, as Brockport has also won five of the last six matchups with the Cardinals.
Looking Ahead: Next week is the final week of the regular season for the Golden Eagles. They have three contests as they make a push for a postseason spot. Brockport travels to Fredonia on Tuesday to play at 5:30 pm, heads to Oswego on Friday for a 5:30 pm tip-off, and then concludes the regular season at home at 2 pm on Saturday against Buffalo State.
