Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team will conclude the regular season this weekend with its final two contests. Brockport is on the road Friday night to take on Oswego at 5:30 pm before hosting Buffalo State at 2 pm on Saturday.
Senior Day: Brockport will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday in the final home game of the year. The squad will take time to recognize each of the three seniors in a short ceremony prior to the opening tip-off.
Chelsea Henry,
Nicole Leslie, and
Kylee Rosbrook will all play in the final home game of their careers as we thank them for all of their contributions to SUNY Brockport and the women's basketball program.
Play 4 Kay: On Saturday the Golden Eagles will also host their Play4Kay game to raise funds for the Kay Yow Women's Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund. The WBCA works with college teams from across the country to organize these events to raise money in honor and memory of the former North Carolina State Head Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009 after a battle with cancer. Family, friends, and fans can help support the cause by pledging a dollar for every free throw the team makes in the month of February. SUNYAC Standings: With four teams already clinching a spot in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament, only two spots remain for the teams across the conference to play for. Here is the full listing of the conference standings heading into the final weekend of the regular season: 1. Cortland (14-2), 2. New Paltz (12-4), 3. Buffalo State (11-5), 4. Geneseo (11-5), 5. Oneonta (8-8), 6. Potsdam (7-9), 7. Fredonia (6-10), 8. Brockport (5-11), 9. Plattsburgh (4-12), and 10. Oswego (2-14).
Oswego Matchup: Kylee Rosbrook and
Serena Sordetto were fantastic against Oswego the first time around, leading Brockport to a 66-54 win over the Lakers earlier this year. Rosbrook totaled 24 points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks while shooting 11-for-20 from the field. Sordetto poured in a career-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. She went a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line in the contest. The Lakers were led by #33 Shania Iglesias, who notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Although the game was close most of the way, Brockport did enough to create space down the stretch to earn the 12-point victory. Oswego enters the weekend 5-17 overall and 2-14 in the SUNYAC, as the team has already been eliminated from postseason contention.
Buffalo State Matchup: The Bengals got the win when they took on Brockport earlier in the season, 75-65, in an overtime battle.
Serena Sordetto posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, while
Kylee Rosbrook came up one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. #22 Katie Villarini led Buffalo State with 18 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds to come up just short of a triple-double. After Brockport tied the score at 57-57 with a pair of free throws to end regulation, overtime belonged to the Bengals as they secured the win. Buffalo State enters the weekend 14-8 overall and 11-5 in the conference, with a postseason spot already clinched.
SUNYACs Ahead: With the regular season ending this weekend, each team around the conference is fighting for a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. The conference tournament begins with its first-round action, scheduled for Tuesday, February 22
