Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's and women's track and field team competed in day one of the 2022 SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the SERC in Brockport, NY
Day 1 Recap
Sarah Crockett was able to take home the 2022 SUNYAC Indoor Shot Put gold medal by hitting a personal best 14.00m. Meleenah Ortiz earned bronze in the shot put with a mark of 12.06m. in fourth place, Ellie Ramirez finished with a mark of 11.89m. Alayna Fredenburg finished in eighth place in the event with a mark of 11.15m. overall the women's shotput team earned a total 22 points towards the team's overall score.
In the men's shot put finals, the Golden Eagles made a clean sweep in medals taking home Gold, Silver, and Bronze along with fourth and sixth place.
Art Jordan took home the Golden with a throw of 16.11m,
Alex Rood silver 15.77m and
Elijah Washington Bronze with 14.80m. in fourth place in the event was
John Demy with a mark of 14.80m and
Matt Faulise in 6th with a throw of 14.09m
In the women's pole vault, Tess Eichner earned a bronze finish in the SUNYAC Championships clearing a height of 3.05m. Mya henry hit a mark of 2.75m to earn an eighth place finish. The Golden Eagles managed to earn seven points in the event.
In the men's pole vault, Zach Smith earned fifth place in the event when he hit 3.95m
In the women's triple jump, Mia Montgomery placed third in the event taking home gold hitting a mar of 11.11m
For the Women's Pentathlon, Madison baker earned a sixth place finish with a score of 2495 for the event. She earned the team three points towards the women's overall score.
At the end of day 1 of the men's heptathlon,
Carson Swierski currently sits in third place with a total of 2350 points.
On the track, Marissa Wise and Kelsi Naldrett are both moving on to tomorrow's final in the women's 60m hurdles final. Naldrett qualified with the third best time of 9.36s while Wise finished with the sixth best time of 9.94s.
Wise also qualified for tomorrows 400m final with a seventh best time of 1:01.31.
Sarah Levine will be moving on to the finals of the women's 60m dash as she qualified with the second best time tonight with 8.02s in the dash.
For the men's 60m dash,
Olivier Kothor and
Devin Kipp both qualified for tomorrow's final. Kothor qualified with a time of 6.92s while Kipp managed to advance with a time of 7.19m
In the women's 200m, Marissa Wise earned a fourth place finish with a time of 26.15s while Sarah Levine earned 26.16s. Both will be advancing into tomorrow's final.
For the men's 200m race, both
Devin Kipp and Olivier Kother qualified for tomorrows final. Kothor finished with a time of 22.29s while Kipp finished in 22.94s.
In the women's 800m, two Golden Eagles qualified for tomorrow's final. Jennifer Metz finished with the fourth best time of 2:21.08 while Kaylee Haynes qualified with the eighth best time of 2:26.42
Jonathan Zavala was able to set a new school record in the men's 800m breaking the 36 year old record of 1:54.62 set by Robert Cowan back in 1986 as Zavala qualified for tomorrow's final with a time of 1:54.60.
In the women's 5000m final, Kerry Flower finished in 3rd place with a time of 18:33.80 while Paul Suflita finished in seventh place in 15:17.05
For the women's distance medley relay final, the team of Lydia Cox, Jennifer Metz, Emma Mathes and Veronica Daily finished in second place with a time of 13:16.34.
For the men's distance medley relay, Brockport's team of
Michael McGowan, Matthew Killan,
Lukas Walters and Thomas Kressley placed fourth with a time of 10:49.56
At the end of day 1, the SUNY Brockport women's track and field team currently places in 2nd place overall having accumulated a score of 52 total points while the men's Golden Eagles sit in third place with a total score of 43 points.
