Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is at home Friday night looking for a third consecutive win. Brockport hosts Geneseo for a SUNYAC matchup with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm at The Vlog.
Pair of Wins: Brockport won back-to-back games at home last weekend, bouncing back after losing two in a row. A 54-24 first half explosion and four double-digit scorers against Plattsburgh paved the way for a 92-62 blowout victory. The very next day the squad defeated Potsdam, 94-73, behind
Jahidi Wallace's 27 points on the night. The pair of wins in The Vlog pushed Brockport's record to 12-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
On the Road: Following Friday night's game against Geneseo, the Golden Eagles will then be on the road for its next four contests. The road trip begins next weekend on February 11
th and 12
th with games against Potsdam and Plattsburgh. Then on Tuesday, February 15
th they head to Fredonia for a 7:30 pm tip-off. The extended play away from home comes to an end on February 18
th when the team heads to Oswego. The Green and Gold get back on the home court on Saturday, February 19
th against Buffalo State.
Conference Picture: Brockport is in the fifth spot in the SUNYAC Standings heading into the weekend at 7-5 in conference play. The defending conference champions are currently in the postseason if the regular season ended now. The full SUNYAC Standings includes: 1. Oswego (12-0), 2. New Paltz (8-4), 3. Oneonta (8-4), 4. Player of the Week: Earlier this week,
Antonio Alvarez was recognized as the PrestoSports Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his performances last weekend. The senior guard posted a season-high 18 points in just 16 minutes of action in a win over Plattsburgh. Alvarez was 5-for-9 from the field and 3-for-6 from downtown. Antonio shot 5-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 16 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals the next day in a win over Potsdam.
Looking at Geneseo: The Geneseo Knights dropped to 9-10 overall and 7-6 in the SUNYAC after a recent 67-66 loss to Buffalo State. They have just one win over the last seven games, but defeated Brockport 66-50 earlier this season. Geneseo had two players post a double-double in the contest, as #15 Michael Gannon and #23 Cole Kattan both finished with 16 points and 10 boards. Gannon is the team's leading scorer, averaging 17.3 points per game.
SUNYACs Coming Up: The 2019-20 defending SUNYAC Champions are making a final push for higher seeding as the conference tournament approaches. The SUNYAC Tournament is scheduled to begin this month, with the first round set to be played on Tuesday, February 22
nd. The Green and Gold have just six regular season games remaining until the postseason arrives.
Next Weekend: The Golden Eagles are on the road next weekend for two big SUNYAC battles. They take on Potsdam on Friday, February 11
th at 7:30 pm and then will face Plattsburgh at 2 pm on Saturday, February 12
th.
