Golden Eagles Split Double Header with William Peace in Carry, NC

CARRY, NC – The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles baseball team (2-2) started out its spring trip with a stop in Carry, North Carolina at the Team USA Baseball Complex. There, they faced off against the William-Peace Pacers (9-5) in a double header consisting of two seven-inning games.
 
The Golden Eagles managed to take game one of the double headers backed by a great pitching performance from senior Andrew Huffman and big at bats from senior Ryan Voight who went 3-3 in the team 6-0 victory. Brockport would then go on to drop game two of the teams double header by a score of 4-2.
 
Game 1:
Andrew Huffman (2-0) got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles throwing a scoreless complete game in the team 6-0 victory. Huffman brought the heat on the mound as through seven innings, Huffman threw 98 pitches, punched out 10 batters, four of which looking, while only giving up three hits after facing 24 total batters.
 
The Golden Eagles started off their spring trip on the offensive side by taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning before scoring runs in both the fourth and seventh innings to secure the 6-0 win.
 
Ryan Voight went 3-3 at the plate, exploding for two doubles and an RBI while scoring one run himself.
 
James Houlahan recorded a team high two RBIs in the Golden Eagles 6-0 victory. At the plate, Houlahan went 1-3 with a stolen base.
 
Jake Sisto, Nick Pastore and Justin Pangburn all recorded a hit each in the game. Both Sisto and Pastore went 1-3 scoring one run in the game as Pangburn went 1-2 and drove in a run.
 
The four run second inning for Brockport came about after William-Peace loaded up the bases and walked the designated hitter of the game Ryan Mroczka to give him an RBI as Nicholas Pastore advanced to home. Justin Pangburns sacrifice fly to centerfield drove in Ryan Voight to make it a 2-0 game. James Houlahan would then single to left field driving in his two RBIsof the game as Mroczka and Pastore both scored.
 
In the fourth inning, Mroczka would score his second run of the game advancing home on a balk from William-Peace's pitcher.
 
Ryan Voight's second double of the day to right center would drive in Jason Mansell as the freshman pinch runner scored his first run of his collegiate career and the final run in the Golden Eagles first win of the day.
 
Game 2:
Cooper Meldrim went 5.2 innings for the Golden Eagles as he started the second game of the day from SUNY Brockport. In his time on the mound Meldrim gave up four hits, three runs, one earned run with two strikeouts on 62 pitches.
 
Justin Delvecchio (0-1) went 2.0 innings allowing one hit and giving up one run on 0 unearned runs. He struck out two batters on 38 pitches.
 
Jake Sisto recorded the first home run of the 2022 baseball season hitting a solo shot off of the scoreboard. Sisto scored both runs in the team's game. while Matt O'Dair led the Golden Eagles offense recording two hits and one RBI in the game going 2-3. Both Tom Kretzler and Nicholas Pastore each recorded one hit. Both O'Dair and Kretzler each has one double.
 
Game Recap:
The Pacers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field driving in a run. O'Dair doubled in the second inning scoring Sisto to tie the game up 1-1.
 
With a tie game in the fourth, Jake Sisto broke the tie game by driving a shot over the left field fence as it bounced off the scoreboard for the Golden Eagles first home run of the year to take a 2-1 lead. The fifth William-Peace would score three runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize as the Pacers came out victorious.
 
Chase to 300
With the team's win in game one, Head Coach Justin Beach moves his record to 298-230-1. He is just two games short of the 300-win milestone. The team plays next on Sunday, March 13th at 6:00pm in Auburndale, Florida at Lake Myrtle in the team's first game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitation.
