Softball Grabs a Pair of Impressive Wins on Day 2

Fort Myers, FL – The SUNY Brockport softball team improves to 3-1 after snagging two wins on the second day of action down in the sunshine state. Brockport had a huge rally in the sixth inning to defeat Pitt-Bradford, 12-5, and then mercy ruled Alfred State, 11-0, in the second game.
 
Game 1 – Brockport 12, Pitt-Bradford 5
 
Emma DeJesus racked up three RBIs in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate against Pitt-Bradford. Emily Willis-Nersinger was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, one RBI, and three runs scored. Olivia Hayden scored one run and batted 3-for-5.
 
Amanda Blakely made contact for two hits in her four at-bats, tallying one RBI and two runs. Madison Evarts entered as a pinch hitter, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Annie Dipirro also had two hits for the Green and Gold, batting 2-for-4 with one RBI.
 
In the circle, Julia Palopoli stepped in for her first start of the season. She pitched 4.1 innings, striking out three batters and giving up four earned runs. Roseland Stroh (1-0) entered the game in the fifth for her collegiate debut. She gave up one run, struck out three batters, and snagged the first win of her career.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead heading into the third inning. The fourth and fifth innings belonged to Pitt-Bradford, as the team went on to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Brockport's bats were on fire in the sixth inning, going on an incredible 8-run rally to go up 11-4. Both teams would touch home plate once more before the game ended, with Brockport taking the 12-5 win.
 
As a team, the Golden Eagles connected for 16 hits and played a clean game defensively with no errors.
 
Game 2 – Brockport 11, Alfred St. 0
 
As the top two in the batting order, Olivia Hayden and Cameryn Duggan were fantastic in game two. They both went 3-for-4 at the dish and combined for five runs scored and two RBIs. Despite not getting credit for a hit, Madison Ross came around to score three runs for the squad.
 
Molly Ryan led the team with three RBIs in the contest, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Emily Willis-Nersinger and Jenna Downey each had one hit and knocked in three runs together. Madison Evarts went 1-for-3 and touched home plate to score twice.
 
Freshman Fiona Gibiser (1-0) made her first career start and collected her first win. She struck out five batters, only gave up three hits, and did not allow a single run to score. She pitched a complete game shutout in five innings, as Brockport mercy ruled its opponent.
 
The Green and Gold hit the ground running early with two runs in the first inning. Brockport added to the lead with a combined total of nine runs in the next two frames to hold an 11-0 advantage. The squad had yet another errorless game defensively, shutting out the Alfred State Pioneers in the win.
 
The Golden Eagles are back on the field again tomorrow for another pair of games here in Fort Myers, Florida. They take on Skidmore College at 3 pm and then face Wilmington College at 5 pm.
