Fort Myers, FL – The SUNY Brockport softball team went 1-1 on Monday in a two-game set at the Lee County Sports Complex in Florida. After falling to Skidmore, 5-4, the ladies scored four unanswered runs in the final two innings for a comeback, 8-6, win over Wilmington College.
Game 1 – Brockport 4, Skidmore 5
Madison Ross took part in all four of the team's runs in the first matchup of the day, batting 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Teammates
Cameryn Duggan and
Madison Evarts both finished the game 2-for-3 at the dish with one run scored.
Molly Ryan was 1-for-3 with an RBI and
Olivia Hayden went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Catherine Johnson (1-1) pitched her second straight complete game, striking out two Skidmore batters in the loss.
Cameryn Duggan doubled in the first inning for the first hit of the game, but didn't stay there long.
Madison Ross stepped to the plate for an RBI single, as Brockport got on the board first. Ross was then brought home by
Olivia Hayden's single to left to put the team up 2-0. Skidmore would tie the game up at 2-2 after the third inning.
In the top of the fifth,
Madison Ross struck again with another RBI single that sent
Madison Evarts in to score. Soon after
Molly Ryan stepped to the plate and connected for shot into right field which brought Ross around to score, putting the Golden Eagles up 4-2. Skidmore knocked in another pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings, evening the score up at 4-4. The Thoroughbreds would steal the win with a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 2 – Brockport 8, Wilmington 6
Cameryn Duggan's bat stayed hot in the second contest of the day, connecting on 3-of-4 of her at bats to score one run.
Annie Dipirro went yard for the first time in her career, hitting a 3-run moonshot for the Green and Gold.
Madison Evarts was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored from the ninth spot in the batting order.
Morgan Skpowski went 1-for-3 with an RBI and
Catherine Johnson batted 2-for-3 from the designated player role.

Hailey Burdick contributed offensively as they both had a stolen base, one run scored, and a sacrifice bunt to move runners over. Freshmen
Jackie DuTot and
Amanda O'Connor both were effective as pinch runners, as they each made it around to home plate when called upon.
Megan Van Dorn made her first start in the circle this year, throwing for 4.1 innings to collect two strikeouts.
Hali Jenner (1-1) grabbed the first win of her collegiate career after entering the game as a reliever in the fifth. She pitched 2.2 innings, struck out two batters, gave up just two hits, and allowed no runs to score.
Both teams came to play in game two of the day, as the contest was a tight one under the lights.
Madison Evarts came around to score the first run of the night, taking advantage of a throwing error by the opposing team in the third. Soon after with two runners on-base,
Annie Dipirro launched a 3-run homer to give Brockport a 4-0 lead.
Momentum began to swing towards Wilmington's side in the middle innings. The Quakers would score six unanswered runs through the bottom of five, taking a 6-4 advantage. With runners on second and third,
Madison Evarts hit an RBI single to spark the comeback in the top of the sixth. Brockport scored three runs in the inning to regain a 7-6 edge.
Morgan Skpowski beat the throw on an infield single to score the final insurance run, giving Brockport the 8-6 win.
The Golden Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season after splitting on day three down in the sunshine state. They are back at it for day four tomorrow with another pair of games scheduled. First up is the University of Maine, Presque Isle at 1 pm and the day closes with a 3 pm battle against Western Connecticut State.
