Golden Eagles Baseball Returns Home After Going 7-0 in the Sunshine State

Auburndale, FL – The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles baseball team (9-2) will return from its trip to Florida going undefeated winning seven straight games in the sunshine state with its 7-3 win over the Simpson College Storm (8-3) Saturday morning.
 
The Golden Eagles managed to outscore its opponents 65-12 during their trip to Florida.
 
Pitching Summery
Against the Storm, Tom Kretzler (1-1) got the ball to start on the mound for Brockport as he went 5.2 innings allowing five hits, one unearned run and 10 strikeouts to get the win. following Kretzler's appearance, Justin DelVecchio came into the game in relief with two outs in the fifth inning to record one strikeout allowing three hits. Matthew Colucci would then go on to get the ball with two outs remaining in the sixth inning. He pitched 1.1 innings striking out one batter retiring all four that he faced. Adam Douglas would enter the game in the bottom of the ninth in a non-save situation with Brockport leading 7-4. In one inning, Douglas threw nine pitches, one strikeout and two ground outs.
 
Batting Summery
Zach Eldred and Nicholas Pastore both hit extra base hits for Brockport as Eldred recorded a double and Pastore hitting two triples against Simpson. Eldred went 3-4 at the dish scoring one run and one RBI. Second basemen James Houlahan and Ryan Voight would also score individual runs with Pastore and Tom Kretzler touching home twice in the game.
 
Pastore lead the team with two RBIs as Eldred, Houlahan, Voight, Jake Sisto and Sam Law each drove in an one RBI.
 
Scoring Summery
 
1st inning
SUNY Brockport once again struck early as leadoff hitter and second basemen James Houlahan lead off the game with a single through the right side of the field on a 2-2 count. Following a groundout, Matt' O'Dair would get out on a routine 1-3 ground ball allowing Houlahan to get into scoring position at second base. Kretzler would get on base at the next at bat with a single to advance Houlahan to third. Ryan Voight would then hit a sacrifice fly ball out to right centerfield to make it a 1-0 lead. With runners on first and second base, Nicholas Pastore would hit his first triple of the day to make it a 3-0 ball game. The Golden Eagles would end the inning scoring three runs on three hits.
 
3rd inning
Brockport would score again in the top of the third inning as Tom Kretzler managed to make it to third base following being hit by a pitch, stealing second, then advancing to third off a Voight ground out. Jake Sisto would ground into a 5-3 play allowing Kretzler to score from third base. Brockport ended the inning with one run on zero hits.
 
4th inning
After Zach Eldred reach base on a single to right field and then to second off a failed pickoff attempt. Justin Pangburn would advance Eldred to third base on a 6-3 ground out who would later score after a James Houlahan single through the left side of the field.
 
6th inning
With Brockport leading 5-0 Simpson would go on to score in the sixth inning to make it a 6-1 ball game.
 
7th inning
Nicholas Pastore would score one more run in the seventh inning to make it a 6-1 ball game. Pastore advanced to second base from a single by Sam Law and would then be driven in by a double from Zach Eldred. Brockport ended the inning with one run, two hits and two men left on base with one error from Simpson. The Storm would go on to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 7-3 ballgame at the end of inning.
 
End Report
With no runs being scored in the final two innings the Golden Eagles would come out victorious with a 7-3 win and a 7-0 record in Florida.
 
Simpsons starting pitcher Brett Kauzlarich (2-1) would record 5.0 IP, five earned runs on five hits and three hit batters. Simpsons batter would record eight runs, three hits with its fielders tallying two errors.
 
The Golden Eagles would record 11 hits, seven runs and one error against the Storm.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will head back north to Western New York and play against the University of Rochester YellowJackets on the road on Wednesday, March 23rd in Rochester, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
