Golden Eagles Topple YellowJackets 12-6 to Keep Their Winning Streak Alive

ROCHESTER, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team (10-2) defeated the University of Rochester YellowJackets (10-4) at Towers Field Tuesday night by a score of 12-6. The YellowJackets are currently the first team receiving votes with 57 in the D3baseball.com national poll.
 
Batter Summary
Justin Pangburn drove in three runs on his second home run of the season while Brian Tietjen (1), James Houlahan(1) and Nicholas Pastore(2) all recorded doubles for the Golden Eagles.
 
Ryan Voight (1), Houlahan (1), Tietjen (1), Pastore (1), Pangburn (3) and Matt O'Dair (2) all managed to drive in RBIs for the Green and Gold in the Game.
 
 Voight (1), O'Dair (1), Houlahan (1) and Ryan Mansell (1) each swiped one free stolen base against the YellowJackets.
 
Scoring 12, each of the Golden Eagles nine starting fielders were able to record a run in the game.
 
Pitching Summary
Matt McGowan got his second start of the season on the bump throwing 57 pitches in 3.1 innings before being substituted by Nick Ianiello in the fourth with a six run lead behind him.
 
In his second outing in relief, the freshman from Penfield, NY we three innings throwing 44 pitches allowing two hits and punching out four batters not allowing a run after facing 12 batters
 
Justin DelVecchio came into the game in a relief appearance as the left struck out two batters while allowing a hit in 1.2 innings pitched.
 
Following an appearance by Ryley O'Connell who threw 21 pitches against five batters, Matthew Colucci pitched one-inning throwing 15 pitches while striking out one batter to close out that game for Brockport.
 
Scoring Summary
Bottom of the 3rd
With a scoreless game in the bottom of the third, a home run from the YellowJackets drove in the game's first run to put Brockport down 1-0.
 
Top of the 4th
Left fielder Ryan Mansell would get the Golden Eagle on the board first scoring from third off a single by first basemen Ryan Voight into center field to tie the game up. With the designated hitter jake Sisto moving Voight to second on a single, Nicholas Pastore would drive in the runner on second base with a double down the right field line to give Brockport the 2-1 lead. Shortstop Justin Pangburn would then break the game open with his three run homer to make it a 5-1 ball game. With catcher Justin Mansell on first, second Basemen James Houlahan would drive in the freshman off a double down the left field line making it 6-1. Brockport would end the inning scoring six runs, delivering seven hits and leaving one man on base.
Bottom of the 4th
The YellowJackets hit a leadoff homerun to make it a 6-2 game. The hit would be U of R's only hit of the inning.
 
Top of the 6th
With Nicholas Pastore hitting his second double of the game he would later score off a single to right field by Matt O'Dair who would then advance to second on the throw to give Brockport a 7-2 lead.
 
Top of the 8th
Matt O'Dair would record his second RBI of the game scoring Justin Pangburn off a double down the right field line. With O'Dair on third and James Houlahan reaching first off a throwing error by the YellowJackets shortstop, Houlahan would steal second base and O'Dair would take advantage of the catcher throw to second base stealing home to score to make it 9-2. With runners on second and third, Tom Kretzler would make a great heads up play reaching first on the wild pitch allowing James Houlahan to score. Ryan Mansell would score during the next at bat off a wild pitch as Kretzler would then be driven in by pinch hitter Brian Tietjen to make it a 12-2 Golden Eagles lead to end the top of the eighth.
 
Bottom of the 9th
Following a scoreless top half, the YellowJackets would score four runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it a 12-6 game before the Golden Eagles would record the final out of the game to defeat the YellowJackets.
 
The win is the Golden Eagle's eighth straight win making it the second longest winning streak during the Justin Beach coaching error. Last season the team recorded a 10-game winning streak the longest of Coach Beach's career.
 
Home/SUNYAC Opener
The Golden Eagles will next prepare for its home & SUNYAC opening series this Friday and Saturday against Fredonia State. That game is scheduled for the first pitch to be throw on Friday at 3:00pm with the first pitch of Saturdays double header scheduled for 12:00pm.
