Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team took advantage of a five-run inning in the fifth on the way to an 8-5 win over RIT at home. Brockport improves to 20-4 overall on the season.
Zach Eldred was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, coming from two-run homer he launched in the fifth.
Justin Pangburn went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
James Houlahan was credited two RBIs in the game from sacrifice situations.
Ryan Voight batted 2-for-4 in the contest with a double, one run, and one RBI.
Ryan Mansell went 1-for-4 with a run and stole two bases.
Nicholas Pastore stole three bases,
Matt O'Dair stole a base, and the two each scored two runs. The Green and Gold recorded a season-high with six stolen bases in the game.
Cooper Meldrim made his third start of the season, striking out four batters and giving up four runs in four innings pitched.
Colin Pytlak (W, 3-0) was awarded the winning decision after entering in the fifth.
Adam Douglas threw for three solid innings, striking out three and allowing just one run.
Matthew Colucci (S, 2) closed the game to earn the save with one strikeout in the ninth.
Although RIT got on the board first with two runs to start the game, Brockport answered to tie the score at 2-2 after one. Neither team would score again until the visiting Tigers brought two more home in the top of the fifth.
Down, 4-2, in the bottom of five the Golden Eagles changed the tone of the game with a big inning at the plate.
Ryan Voight's RBI double got the party started for the team. Then
Zach Eldred stepped up and shot a two-run homer over the fence to give Brockport a 5-4 lead.
By the end of the fifth inning, the Green and Gold had added another pair of runs to make the lead, 7-4. RIT made it a 7-5 game with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. Brockport added an insurance run in the seventh to clinch the final score of 8-5.
The Golden Eagles now hit the road on Wednesday for a quick turn-around with another non-conference game up next. They travel to face Wells College for a single contest, starting at 3:30 pm.
