Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team swept Potsdam in Tuesday's doubleheader by scores of 8-3 and 10-0. Brockport gets its first set of wins in conference play, improving to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.
In game two, freshman
Hali Jenner gave up just one hit in a complete game in the circle. She throws Brockport's first 1-hitter since teammate
Julia Palopoli did so back on March 15, 2018 against Castleton.
Game 1 – Brockport 8, Potsdam 3
Madison Evarts was busy in game one, going 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, two runs scored, and a steal.
Annie Dipirro knocked in two RBIs with two hits in four trips to the plate.
Madison Ross was credited with two RBIs as well, batting 1-for-4.
Cameryn Duggan and
Olivia Hayden were both 2-for-5 at the dish. Duggan rattled off a double, had one RBI, and came in to score once.
Amanda Blakely scored two runs for the Green and Gold, getting on base with a pair of hits in four at-bats.
Emma DeJesus was also 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Amanda O'Connor went 1-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI as well.
Molly Ryan was walked twice and came in to score a run, while
Jackie DuTot also came home to score once as a pinch runner.
Julia Palopoli (W, 2-1) threw a solid game as the starter in the circle. She pitched six full innings with one strikeout and allowed just three runs to score.
Roseland Stroh came in to finish out the game, also getting one strikeout in the seventh.
Annie Dipirro brought
Madison Evarts and
Cameryn Duggan home to score with a two-RBI single in Brockport's first at-bat. Potsdam answered with one run in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-1 game.
The Golden Eagles would then score six unanswered runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. They gave up two runs in the sixth, but closed out a strong all-around game for the 8-3 win to start the doubleheader.
Game 2 – Brockport 10, Potsdam 0
Emily Willis-Nersinger was a perfect 3-for-3 in second-leg of the doubleheader. She also recorded three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
Cameryn Duggan hit her first triple of the season, going 1-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Shortstop
Morgan Skpowski scored once and knocked in two runs while batting 1-for-3 on the day.
Madison Evarts was 1-for-3 with an RBI and
Hailey Burdick brought in a run on a sac fly.
Hannah Jacobs and
Jackie DuTot were both 1-for-2 in the game with one run scored.
With just one at-bat,
Olivia Hayden contributed one hit, a stolen base, and a run.
Emma DeJesus went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Annie Dipirro was 1-for-2 in the second game and teammate
Amanda O'Connor came in to score a run.
Hali Jenner (W, 3-3) continues to play well in her freshman campaign, throwing a 1-hitter in the victory. She earns the win in a complete game shutout and did so without walking a single batter. Jenner records Brockport's first 1-hitter in over four years.
Game two was dominated by the Green and Gold from start to finish.
Emily Willis-Nersinger got Brockport on the board early with an RBI single up the middle in the first. In the third she hit another up the middle that brought two more runs in to score.
Morgan Skpowski then blew the game open with another two-RBI single in the same inning.
Brockport would go on to score six runs in the top of the third to jump out to a 7-0 lead going into the fourth.
Hali Jenner allowed a hit in the second inning, but shutdown the Potsdam bats all game long.
Hailey Burdick's sac fly and
Cameryn Duggan's two-RBI triple brought the mercy rule into effect, clinching Brockport's 10-0 win.
The Golden Eagles get back to .500 for the season ahead of a full weekend coming up. They get back home to the Clark V. Whited Complex on Friday and Saturday for SUNYAC doubleheaders against New Paltz and Oneonta.
